Blank LCD screen on shooting mode, but does show settings. Will not take pictures. Replaying mode works, shows pictures taken before screen went blank. New batteries. What is going on??? Is it fixable? I bought the Canon PowerShot A570 IS. I don't know if it is me or the camera but my LCD screen doesn't stay on. I can take a phote, the photo will then display on the LCD for 2 seconds BUT then the LCD goes blank, all i can see are the menu options. If I take a pic while LCD is blank my pic's come out black. However, if I press the "disp." (display) button 3 times, the LCD screen comes back for another shot before going back to blank. Is it me or my camera????

I had that same problem withe LCD screen being blank/black and when I took a picture it would not display. I too just bought my camera recently (2 months) ago. I finally realized after trying everything. By pressing "DISP" button (i.e. the LCD) my display returned and I could review the pictures once again. If I want to set the camara back to the original settings what do I select?

I have the exact same problem.
The tiny little shutter (if that is what it is called) shuts after I take the first pic. If I look in the lens I can see it is closed. It is about the size of a ballpoint pen tip. Cycling the DISP button 3 times opens it and I can take the next pic. I can also flip it to "picture view mode" and back to "take a picture mode" to reset the little shutter thing.

I have the same problem as well. The LCD is working (displays all the settings), but it shows only black, and takes only black pictures. The display button does not solve this problem, nor do any other tweaks or button pushing. The camera is six months old -- I suppose I'll return it for warranty repair.

I have the same problem. I lost my instruction manual on top of it. I'm about to chuck this thing and never buy a canon again. My last canon was easy to use but this one is a nightmare.

Screen is blank when taking a picture but I can call it up on the monitor after the picture is taken. My camera is only 2 months old. (I have a SD850 IS) Couldn't find a problem site for this camera. I've done nothing.

The Display button manually turns the LCD display on or off to save batteries. If you accidentally had turned the LCD off, It should only take one press of the button to turn it back on and leave it that way. As such, it's not you but the camera. The A570 IS is relatively new. Your camera is likely still under warranty. If so, contact Canon for warranty repair (see the following link):

This comment is in response to "Guest's" question. To reset your camera back to factory settings, turn it on and press/hold the menu button for five seconds. Then follow the onscreen prompts to reset.

My lcd screen will not show the picture. The

First try pressing the DISP or DISPLAY button to make sure that you didn't accidentally turn off the LCD. But if that's not the case...
Try taking and downloading a picture taken while the screen is blank. Is the picture also blank? If so, a stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open). To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help. Read the users comments there also for more tips.

Similar problems as other readers. camera turns on but no real time image on LCD screen. LCD contiues to show settings i.e. full auto mode etc. But I can view pictures already taken. Thanks

The XTi and prior EOS models have not capability to see the live image to be shoot on the screen. Only the image after taken can see on the screen. Other images also using the view mode.

If you can't review the images, eve if the display is turned off, just after they are taken, maybe the "Review time" is set to "off". Go to settings, 3th tab, Review time and set the desired setting.

Shooting mode shows nothing.

Hello,

I just had this issue with my camera (my 15 year old son solved it for me ;-) ).

The viewfinder was active in "record" mode and the LCD was "active" because you could see a little back light but no image. The "playback" mode would let me review pictures in the LCD though so I know it is capable of showing information.

If you push the display key/button a couple of times you can see the picture move from the viewfinder to the LCD and have just a picture and or a picture and information.

So try setting the camera to "record" mode (lens comes out) and then push the "display button" which is on the back of the camera just to the right of the LCD on the lower right side several times and see if the LCD starts to work.

It could be that somehow the display button was pushed by mistake.

Canon SD 550-- sensor problem? Bought 3/2006 and have had no problems. Suddenly, LED screen went black--shows nothing and cannot take a picture altho will flash and record black picture. Shooting...

The shutter of the camera is not opening that is why every picture taken is recorded black. It is a mechanical problem and probably has nothing to do with the sensor. Not very expensive

Blank LCD screen on shooting mode, but does show settings. Will not take pictures. Replaying mode works, shows pictures taken before screen went blank. New batteries. What is going on??? Is it fixable?

Thanks for that link, I will keep it handy! Be careful however, because the exact same symptom can be caused by a stuck shutter. To tell if it is a stuck shutter follow these steps: 1. Turn off the flash!! 2. Look down into the lens. 3. Take a picture. Did you see anything change? The opening at the center should be momentarily covered by a matte black shield. If you take a picture and see no change inside the lens then the shutter is stuck closed or open. If Canon finds your shutter to be stuck and not a CCD failure, the repair will not be free.. very not free. David Millier Advance Camera Repair
