You may have accumulated a little trash, perhaps a little water, and general gunk in the bottom of your gas tank. Either that or a bad fuel pump.

I'd get a new fuel filter, clear plastic kind, and if you have an air compressor or access to one, block the opening of the gas tank, blow compressed air into it, and see if ugly stuff comes out of your tank.

Watch out for blow back out of the tank. I use an old natural sponge like you'd wash a car with, mash it down hard agaunst the openingm and put the blow gun down into the middle. It will take a little while for the pressure to build up enough to blow the stuff out.

Make sure you have the hose down in a can or plastic jug. If the gas comes and freely and is clean, suspect the fuel pump. The filter should have plenty of gas running through it.

John Deere lawn tractor stalls when less than half tank of gas

I had that problem with my Scott. Turned out to be a partially plugged fuel line. The fuel is gravity feed to the carb so when less pressure is in the tank the fuel stops getting to the carb. Make sure your lines and filter are free of obstructions. Also make sure that your tank is clean inside..Some times a small object will restrict the fuel feed hole in the bottom of the tank.

I had a similar problem lasy year.
Try this:
As soon as the machine seems to be stalling, loosen the gas cap.
If the engine continues to run, clean the gas cap vent hole(s).

John Deere 445 Garden Tractor, starts immediately,

could be bad gas, but it sounds like a choke problem. did it sit over the winter with less than a half tank of gas in it. try putting some rubbing alcohol in the fuel or draining the tank and disconnecting the gas line so you can drain the gas out of the carb. also check the gap of the spark plug and make sure that is correct. when was the last time there was fresh oil put in. also check the air filter, it could be full of dirt.

Have a John Deere L111 lawn tractor with running problems

I had the same problem and I figured out that it was the small hole on top of the gas cap. There is a vent hole on the top/middle and this got plugged with debris and caused a vacum in the gas tank which caused the engine to sputter and kill. Good luck!

Our new to us john deere 345 tractor won't keep running

You may try blowing backwards from behind the fuel filter into the gas line. Not to much air pressure though. Make sure the gas cap is off.

John deere 420 trouble starting getting gas and

The engine needs air, so be sure the air filter is clean. If it is not, replace it.

The engine needs spark. Replace the spark plug and be sure that the battery has a complete charge.

The engine needs good fuel so be sure the gas is newly purchased, not gas that has been sitting around for months.
