Install the driver that cames with the camera in your pc and plug the camera to the pc then go to install new hardware and see if it finds your camera, it probably will do.

SOURCE: can I use SD1000 as a webcam?

Hello,
From what I managed to find out this is the situation:
It is possible to use it as a webcam if you connect camera video out to some video capture card (if you have any) in the computer. Also you must have software to support this connection.
But...
The reason I wasn't more specific about how to connect the camera and what software to use is because no one recommends using this camera for that purpose. First you would need external power source (AC/DC adaptor), because your batteries won't last long when continously recording video. Other, much more important thing is that camera is heating and can be seriously damaged if it's used like this for longer time.
Advice is to buy some cheap USB webcam and use that one.

Unfortunately this camera is not capable to be used as a webcam. It is only to be connected to the computer when you want to download images from the memory card to the computer.

Can i make the polaroid i737 a webcam

Many people ask if they can use their digital camera as a webcam. In the early days of digital imaging, it made sense to dual-function a camera because a webcam was a serious investment. However, webcams are now so inexpensive that manufacturers are not considering this functionality important in their digital cameras. In fact even the word 'webcam' creates the impression of bad imaging, so associating this function with a camera actually makes the camera seem 'cheap'.

So, why do so many people ask if they can do this? I believe it's caused by the 'grandfathered camera' problem. Advances in camera design have been so stunning in the last few years that it makes no sense to use an old camera when you could use a new one and get better pictures. But what do you do with the old camera? This is where people start thinking "I wonder if I can use this as a webcam?".

So, can your camera be used as a webcam? Probably not, but here's how you can tell. Make sure you've installed all the software you can find for your camera, power it up, and plug it in. Windows will tell you if it has a webcam function. If it's a webcam, then it will appear in "My Computer" as a device, right along with all the disk drives. To be sure, go to your control panel and select "Scanners and Cameras". Is your camera listed? If not... it's not a webcam.

In the unlikely event that you have a 'video in' on your computer, and that your camera has a 'video out' then you can follow the instructions on the sony site ("how to use a digital still camera as a webcam"); but most people will not have that yellow 'video in' connection.

Your camera doesn't work as a webcam? No, I thought not. Here's a different suggestion for what to do with that old camera: keep it in a different place. Seriously, keep it in the car, at work, or at the cottage. One day, something interesting will happen there, and you'll be grateful of a camera with ANY resolution, even that old one!

Check the manual of your digital camera to see if it can be used as a webcam. Many digital cameras have this functionality and even come with webcam software. If your camera didn't come with webcam software, use a third party web cam application such as SarmSoft WebCam. Find SarmSoft WebCam at ShareUp.com.
Plug your digital camera's power adapter into the camera. Some won't function as a webcam unless they are plugged into A/C power. Even if your digital camera functions as a webcam while on batteries, A/C power saves your batteries and prevents your camera from shutting off in the middle of a broadcast.
Connect a video cable into your digital camera's video "out" port. Your camera likely came with a cable made for connecting it to a to a video source. Plug the other end of the video cable into your video card's video "in" port.
Set up your camera as close to your monitor as possible. This allows better face to face communication.
Position yourself about 2 to 3 feet away from your digital camera. Most digital camera's focus best at this distance when used as a webcam.
Use a separate microphone if your digital camera doesn't transmit sound when used as a webcam. Plug the microphone into the microphone jack of your sound card.
