Lens coming out and going back in when turned on

When I go to turn on my camera the screen says Access and the lens keeps coming out and then going back in. It does this a few times and then the screen says turn off and then turn back on, only to have the same thing happen. Sony said it was a problem with the lens but how can I fix it?

I have a cannon sx160is . When I power on the camera the lens comes out but the screen is black. When I turn the camera off the lens doesn't go all the way back in.

  1. Turn the power off, eject the battery pack, and reinsert it into the camera.
  2. Turn the power back on and check if the drive part of the lens moves properly.
  3. If the lens still will not open, retract or extend, then reset the camera.

When I turn my camera on, the lens goes in and out and the screen says "Access," then says "turn off and back on" but it never comes on.

Lens of camera is bad and requires replacement that would cost more then camera worth. Best option is to buy another camera.

It keeps doing this when trying to turn on lens comes out then go's rite back in. message on the back of the screen says turn camera of and back on again.

remove battery while lens is out. try reseting the cam usually near batt need paperclip to push reset. if the lens makes grinding noise lens assembly gears are done. flat rate from sony is usually close to 80% of what you paid for cam.

Your camera has problem in Lens mechanism. If Lens doesn't open properly, camera will not show picture at all. There would be Loading Motor section demaged in Lens mechanism and it needs to be replaced to work camera OK.
Now come to blue screen in playback mode, This model doesn't have internal memory, so you need memory stick/ card to see previously taken pictures.

Getting access

Was your unit dropped, or maybe left with the lens protruding? Seems you have a problem with the lens assy(stucked), during start-up, it will initialize to check if all systems go, if not then it will display turn off and on again. thanks

Camera lens comes out and goes back in when I turn it on.

Sounds like the lens can't get into the proper position. Any possibility of damage to the lens?
