Freezer not getting cold.

My freezer seems to not be cold. It has been getting worse for a little while. When the defrost cycle is on, the edges behind the door are very hot. I know they need to get warm just seems a little too hot. Now the freezer is not cold enough to keep everything frozen. I'm not sure where the timer is on the fridge to check it.

Your fridge does not have a timer . It works off the main control board . Is there frost on the inside rear wall of the freezer , about 18 " up ? Is the freezer fan working ? Reply with the answers , and an expert will be glad to help you .

SOURCE: freezer/fridge won't get cold enough

Madezmom, you have a defrost issue. If your model starts with 106 you more than likley have a bad defrost bi-metal, I will attach a picture of bad one. This sits on the evaporator in the freezer section behind the panel. You will have to remove the shelves and remove the back panel. Defrost the evaporator completely. The part number for the bi-metal is 2196155. See if yours is bulged like the one in the attached photo. If so, that's your problem..Catriver..post back.

SOURCE: Fridge not working

Speed, If your model number begins with 596. This is made by Amana with the Kenmore name. Look at your defrost thermostat that sits on the evaporator, see if its bulged. If it is it's more than likley your problem. Part number 12001937. Your heaters should be calrod and seldom fail. Advance the refer into defrost by turing the mechanical timer clockwise until you hear it click and see if the heater comes on. Should find the timer under the control panel, should be a slot you can use a screw driver to turn it. If the heaters don't come on you can temp. by pass the bi-metal by simply cutting it out, connecting the wires and putting it into defrost again. However, it must be replaced. This is a safety device. If the heater now comes on, it's your bi-metal. If they don't come on with the bi-metal by passed, check for 120V at the heater connection. If no voltage, its your defrost timer. Careful in there your working with live voltage...Catriver post back.

SOURCE: fridge doesn't get cold enough

you have either a Defrost heater / a defrost timer/ or a defrost bi-metal that is bad. if you post your model # i can look it up and show you how to set it into defrost to see if the heaters are ok
Since you replaced the timer already that leaves two things you need to check set it into defrost if you know how and remove the panel in the back wall of the freezer you should see the heater(s) are on if not check pwr 120vac at the heaters if 0 volts the bi-metal is bad

SOURCE: Freezer coils freezing, fridge warm

You might want to check and make sure the interior fan is working above the evaporator coils. If the fan isn't working the air won't circulate over the evaporator and it will frost over very quickly, and also cold air won't be pushed into the fridge side.

The fan might turn off when the door is open, hold the door switch shut while you check it.

I have a Beko frost free fridge freezer kept in a garage that has all of a sudden just stopped working. I noticed that the bread I'd put in the freezer hadn't frozen and then noticed that the fan had...

If the fan has failed or intermittent, the freezer wont freeze the food properly but usually you get a mountain of ice build up at the back of the freezer. This ice jams and stops the fan from turning. Alternatively, there could be a defrost problem. Unless it is a fully electronic defrost machine, there is usually a little timer on the back of the fridge to force a defrost after a certain time. The fridge will turn off, the defrost heater operates to melt the ice and then usually with 20 to 45 minutes, the defrost timer will "click" back on and start the fridge running again. If the timer is sticking, the fridge may stay on its defrost cycle and never start again, thus, it doesn't get cold. If you find the defrost timer, have a close look for a little shaft or slotted screw type stud sticking out of the middle of it. A slight turn of this and you should hear it clicking around. When you hear a loud click, that is either the start or end of the defrost cycle. If you have a full electronic defrost system, it may be a failed board, heater, thermostat or defrost safety fuse.

I have a Frigidaire Gallery refrigerator. The freezer is not cooling enough to keep frozen. It is blowing cold air and the refrigerator part seems to be working.

If your freezer is cold then you may have a defrost cycle issue. There are typically three components for the defrost cycle. Heater bar, thermostat and timer. If the defrost system fails ice starts to build up in the back of the freezer until it prevents cold air from getting into the fridge. When I took off the back panel inside my freezer it was a block of ice. You can melt the ice with a hair dryer and order new parts.

Do I need new frig or hav it repaired. Hav water under vegetable drawers

Its the defrost problem. In your unit the defrost cycle is not running on time. This is the procedure of the unit.--- The compressor starts then it cools the freezer section. When the freezer reaches its cooling level the defrost cycle starts functioning. In this cycle the fan in the freezer section starts running and the cool air in the freezer section is passed to the fridge section and the fridge section gets cold. The air from freezer to fridge passes from the section, in that section the damper is located. In your case the freezer gets cold, after that defrost cycle has to start, but in your case the defrost cycle is not starting on time so over ice gets internally build and when defrost cycle starts, this ice melts and this gets leaks in the vegetable and under vegetable drawer.-------- Get the defrost timer, and defrost assembly parts checked and repaired by the technician.Repairing will solve the problem. You can get required parts from from online sites like: --- www.repairclinic.com or from searspartsdirect online site. --------- This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

I hava a 2 door fridge, the front of the freezer has a little ice and the bottom really is not getting cold

It can be defrost issue.First try manual defrost reset procedure. The procedure is as follows: ----
First unplug the unit from main power outlet. Then empty whole unit completely. Then keep both the doors open. Wait for 24 hours. All the ice collected on the coils and in the freezer section will get melted. Clean the water from the sections. Then Connect the power cord of the unit to main power outlet after 24 hours/.Then set the temperature to normal in both fridge and freezer section. It will take near to 4 hours to get run in its proper cooling cycle. Then check, if the problem returns again. Then its defrost board problem. -------------The procedure of this unit is as follows: --- The compressor starts then it cools the freezer section. When the freezer reaches its cooling level the defrost cycle starts functioning. In this cycle the fan in the freezer section starts running and the cool air in the freezer section is passed to the fridge section and the fridge section gets cold. The air from freezer to refrigerator passes from the section, in that section the damper is located.----------- The defrost assembly consists of three main parts. The defrost thermostat, the defrost heater and defrost board. Any of the one is not functioning. When thermostat sense the maximum cooling, it triggers the defrost heater to start heating and this defrosts the ice collected on the coils and the system works. Both thermostat and heater are controlled by defrost board. First the thermostat and defrost heater to be checked, if both check ok by meter and visually, then its defrost board causing the problem. You can get required parts from online sites like: --- www.repairclinic.com or from searspartsdirect online site.

The freezer stopped working but the frige seem fine. no ice build up on the defrost timer.

No model # given to reference the symtoms. I would surly worry if you had ice buildup on the defrost timer. Some are in the fresh food side and some are outside the compartments. Extreamly rare to have one in the freezer.
Also if this is a standard SxS or top mount system...everything that happens in the fresh food section, happens because of the freezer. Air moves from the ff side to the freezer. The air is cooled down and recirulates back through the freezer and to the ff side. Issue could be ...evaporator fan bad or low RPM, freezer door switch, cold control not cycling on / back on. Compressor intermittantly cycling / bad start device / weak compressor, condenser fan slow or not cycling...should be on anytime compressor is running. Some of these items can be visually checked, some require advanced knowledge and a multimeter for test. Be careful of live voltage and sharp edges.

Freezer won't get below 13 degrees

Make sure the evaporator coils behind the rear cover inside the freezer are not iced up too much. This would indicate a defrost problem and will get worse.
If the compressor is still cycling off and on the cold control could be at fault.
