Purchase a USB to PCMCIA Convertor Hardware and you will be able to use your old PCMCIA Data Card in your new Laptop.

In India, one comes in the name of ENTER brand. Other brands too available.

Is your Telstra/Bigpond ADSL modem has a built-in wireless router?
If the ADSL modem has a built-in wireless router and your laptop does not have a wireless card, then you have two options to connect your laptop to the ADSL wireless router/Internet -
1. Purchase a PCMCIA wireless adapter and insert it into the PCMCIA slot in your laptop. One of my favourites is made by Netgear.
or
2. Purchase a USB wireless adapter, the only disadvantage with this solution is, it uses a USB port and if your laptop has only one USB port. This is a problem if you need to connect other USB devices. Then you also need to purchase a 4 port USB hub to give you additional USB ports.

I have just bought a second hand compaq nc 4010 i have read that i can make it wireless using a pcmcia wifi card how do i install it as i have no disc drive on the nc4010?thank you

pcmcia is a card slightly smaller than the antique floppy disc that usually fits in a slot on the side of your laptop your model does have this slot, but personally I would go for a usb hsdpa modem as this provides faster broadband internet.
good luck

Install drivers for ethernet card or buy a usb to ethernet adapter. That will get you on the net so you can install your other drivers via thinkvantage installer. Or you can just cruise the net with the usb to ethernet adapter itself.

My dial up modem was fried in a power outage. I need to get a new one. Its for a toshiba l45 series. D40 modem. where can I get one

Two choices: order from Toshiba (possibly expensive) or purchase a PCMCIA modem (uses the laptops card slot). You can also try purchasing a USB modem (easiest to install). Head to a computer store for either of these parts.

Dial-up Internet connection problem

What model do you have. Perhaps whomever you purchased it from left the modem card out of it not knowing you would need it. There are 56k modem cards avail. that stick out of the PCMCIA slot. It is always an option. You can get them for like $5 on ebay.
