Lenovo G580 Laptop Logo
Rohit Balbhadra Posted on Sep 22, 2013

I bought a lenovo G580 Ideapad laptop 3 months ago. Now my computer is behaving weirdly. Whenever I boot my laptop, it works fine for few minutes. But then I need to press ctrl or alt key 2 to 3 times in order to remove the highlighted " My computer" icon. If I don't press anything, I cannot do anything else. Same thing with any drive or any folder. What should I do?

Looks like I got the solution myself. The Page Up Key of my keyboard is faulty. Sometime it works, sometimes it doesn't and sometime it automatically gets pressed.

Sounds like a new machine. Take it back for replacement or servicing. You may very well have a hardware problem.

How do i remove or reset the bios password on a Lenovo G580 laptop?

First of all, you need the present password. Then straight after turning the computer on you press F12 or insert multiple times after each other. That way you will stop the normal boot and enter the BIOS settings. There you most likely will be prompted for the password and then under security you can disable or change it.

My lenovo laptop g580 wont boot even if camera and indicator lights are on

Sounds like a bad monitor or ram. Does the hard drive, fan etc make noise when first turning it on?

If there's noises indicating it's working, it's probably a hardware issue.

I bought a lenovo g580 laptop, and the computer shuts down after 30 minutes of use. The temperature is around 45~50 degrees which isn't that huge.

Sounds like temperature or maybe a faulty battery. Are you using the laptop on a hard flat surface? Need to in order for the system fan to keep everything cool. Also , are the vents free of dust and debris?

Want to change compability to AHCI mode in lenovo z570 ideapad

This is a setting in you BIOS. Try changing to AUTO under the SATA drive settings by pressing F key during boot. It will be noted on screen during startup.

I would stay away from a OS upgrade till your are certain all hardware and software is compatible. It is a lot of work if it does not work properly.

Welcome to Fixya

Try to restore the computer back to factory state instead of using the RCD. Turn off the computer then push the small button located beside the power button. The screen should show you the One key recovery. Select one key racovery then select restore from initial backup.

My Lenovo ideapad keeps freezing ever since I bought it a month ago.

If laptop was bought a month ago, it may still be covered by store exchange policy. If so, just take it back to store for exchange. If you bought it with a credit card, it may also be covered by the credit card company for its exchange or repair. Also, if you bought an extended warranty when you did the purchase, it will cover not only repair but also replacement should repair not be possible. Finally, there is the manufacturer's warranty which typically is for one year from the date of purchase but you likely will have to ship at your expense to manufacturer's designated repair site.

If you choose to continue troubleshooting yourself, here are possible freezing causes...
1. hard disk drive has defective sectors (not likely but possible which is why there is exchange)
2. virus infection (pc usually come with a firewall and antivirus which you must activate)
3. conflict between two firewalls, two antivirus or two spyware/malware programs (suppose to only run one of each but often an antivirus program includes features like an internet security suite.)

On the 2nd Tuesday of every month, Microsoft releases a free tool to address virus infections. The tool is called Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool. It is usually downloaded in an infected computer's hard drive but if this cannot be done, the tool can be loaded into a USB stick or thumbdrive on another computer then inserted into the infected computer's USB port to be run. Microsoft also has online tools to scan and remove malware. For more information and download go to .... http://www.microsoft.com/security/pc-security/malware-removal.aspx
