SOURCE: Demo Mode
Unplug the microwave for at least 3 minutes, then plug it back in, and BEFORE SETTING THE CLOCK, press and hold power level and start for three seconds. This should flash "demo mode off". Set the clock as normal. Enjoy!

I just bought a condo with a GE Spacemaker Mod# JVM1860SD
that was stuck in demo mode. (This mod# has been replaced by the JVM1870*** series)
I called GE twice in two days, and finally got someone who had the solution (and it worked):
It messed me up at first because the power level and zero pads don't beep when the unit is booting up... but it worked.
- Again, this is for the GE Spacemaker 1860-1870 series models only - The women who gave me instructions said she had different demo mode unlock methods for the 1400, 3670, 2070 etc... so call GE if you have a different model.
P.S. my model looks like this - the keypad setup is key http://products.geappliances.com/ApplProducts/Dispatcher?REQUEST=SPECPAGE&SKU=JVM1870SK&SITEID=GEA
SOURCE: stuck in demo mode after power outage - any ideas
Talked to GE Help Line (1-800-626-2005) and found out the magic key combination for this microwave. Plug in after being unplugged for at least 30 sec. and then press Help plus Boost at same time for 3-4 seconds (until it beeps). The microwave will now be in normal mode (I assume you do this to put it in demo mode as well).

These covers are usually available at your local appliance parts store, and are not expensive. Glue can damage the keypad, trippling your repair cost.
Hope this helps.
