I just bought a condo with a GE Spacemaker Mod# JVM1860SD
that was stuck in demo mode. (This mod# has been replaced by the JVM1870*** series)
I called GE twice in two days, and finally got someone who had the solution (and it worked):
Unplug the unit for at least 30 seconds
Plug the unit back in DO NOT SET THE CLOCK
While the unit is still "booting up" and the display screen is lit with gibberish, HOLD THE POWER LEVEL AND THE ZERO BUTTON for at least 5 seconds.
After 5 seconds, the screen will display "demo mode off"
It messed me up at first because the power level and zero pads don't beep when the unit is booting up... but it worked.
- Again, this is for the GE Spacemaker 1860-1870 series models only - The women who gave me instructions said she had different demo mode unlock methods for the 1400, 3670, 2070 etc... so call GE if you have a different model.
P.S. my model looks like this - the keypad setup is key http://products.geappliances.com/ApplProducts/Dispatcher?REQUEST=SPECPAGE&SKU=JVM1870SK&SITEID=GEA

Re: GE Microwave DEMO MODE
Press and hold the Clear/Off button for three seconds - this may solve the problem. If "controls locked" comes up in the display just press and hold Clear/Off for three seconds again.
If this doesn't work, you could try the same procedure with all the other buttons in turn, most each one will turn on/off a special feature, hopefully one being the demo mode.
I couldn't find any info about the demo mode specifically - maybe you might have more luck follow this link for the user manuals
and this for the installation guide
- which also contain service centre contact details
Hope this helps

The problem is in one of the door switches, "it is defective" this is a highly dangerous situation and should be checked immediately, the microwave oven should unplugged until a appliance repairman looks at it.
Code "d" means the microwave is in "Demo Mode".
Push and hold the "Kitchen Timer" pad for 5 seconds until you hear two beeps.
If you check carefully, You may also find this info in your user Manual under "Demo/Learning" feature
Have you checked your manual to see how to get out of demo mode? Since it is still in demo mode, you won't be able to use it for anything else. If you don't have the manual, go to GE's website and download the manual there. Also, you can check their site for Support and look for troubleshooting.
