How do i connect my WG302 to my laptop using a console cable?

if Windows
go to dosprompt on p.c or start run cmd <press the enter key>
type in ipconfig <press the enter key>
was the ip address of the laptop 192.168.0.210 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0 ?
note the ip address of the laptop and the subnet mask
If the ip address is not 192.168.0.210 then go into the network settings and set the laptop up with 192.168.0.210 and then make it a static ip address.
go to dosprompt on p.c or start run cmd <press the enter key>
type in ipconfig <press the enter key>
was the ip address of the laptop 192.168.0.210 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0 ? (if not restart the laptop ) and check again
Next question how did you connect the wg302 directly to the laptop was it directly connected or was it through a network switch or network hub. Most likely the Cable router or DSL router has a DCHP server assigning different ip address lease range. You can either change the ip address of the access point device to one in the original current router lease range and assign it as static for the wireless access point device in the dchp lease table or assign the wireless access point with the second ip address as an example 10.0.0.2 and make sure the router dchp server allocates above 10.0.0.20 then temporarily connect router to laptop and temporily set laptop with 192.168.0.210 and then log into access point and change ip address to 10.0.0.2 for wireless access point device and turn off its dchp server. Then change laptop to use dhcp while connected into network hub or network switch with original router and restart laptop wired back into original normal network.

How to assign an IP address for an iPod Touch

<p>The iPod Touch is the only iPod that can connect to a computer network using the built-in Wi-Fi adapter more public and open wireless networks, a dynamic Internet Protocol (IP) for each device when accessing the network. However, private networks in a number of houses and organizations that works with static IP addresses. In this scenario, a device always uses the same unique IP address to connect to the network. You can use an IP address from your iPod Touch. <br /> <p><br /> <p>1. Tap "Settings," then "Wi-Fi." The iPod is a list of wireless networks in range. <br /> <p><br /> <p>2. What is apn settings

Access Point Name (APN) is a computer protocol that typically allows a user's computer to access the internet using the mobile phone network.

On a technical level it is a configurable network identifier used by a mobile device when connecting to a GSM carrier. The carrier will then examine this identifier to determine what type of network connection should be created, for example: what IP addresses should be assigned to the wireless device, what security methods should be used, and how/or if, it should be connected to some private customer network.[1]

More specifically, the Access Point Name (APN) identifies an IP Packet Data Network (PDN), that a mobile data user wants to communicate with. In addition to identifying a PDN, an APN may also be used to define the type of service, (e.g. connection to wireless application protocol (WAP) server, multimedia messaging service (MMS)), that is provided by the PDN. APN is used in 3GPP data access networks, e.g. general packet radio service (GPRS), evolved packet core (EPC).

Hi,

Improve the Fixya.com experience for everyone by voting!

I think a functional explanation may be of some assistance to you.

The IP address is assigned to the server or client software, but not to the physical workstation which the software or device is installed.

D-Link and virtually every other provider uses IP addresses from a Private IP Address class, which is special class of IP addresses that is reserved for private local networks (not to be confused with Virtual Private Networks, or VPN).

The default IP address is 192.168.0.x and assigned automatically. The most common IP address in any local system is 192.168.0.1.

Over the years, I've found that it is unnecessary to manually TCP?IP settings unless the automatic settings or configuaration has failed When I do have to change the settings, the following are used on Local Area Networks (LANs):

IP Address 192.168.0.1
Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
DNS Do not change
Gateway IP
Address None because the default should be 192.168.1.0 or whatever was
automatically assigned.

Some additional information that should assist you in better understanding a LAN.

The SSID (Service Set IDentifier) is a token which identifies a 802.11 (Wi-Fi) network. The SSID is a key which is set by the wireless network administrator. You must know the SSID to connect to a 802.11 wireless network. However, the SSID can be discovered by network sniffing/scanning. By default, the SSID is part of the packet header for every packet sent over the WLAN.

SSID access points continuously broadcast radio signals which are received by client machines if enabled. Based on the automatic or manual configuration, the client can connect to the access point. A SSID is generally 32 bit long, but when displayed to the user, it is projected into a human readable ASCII format. Multiple access points can possibly share the same SSID if they are for the same wireless network. Many wireless access points support broadcasting multiple SSIDs, permitting the formation of Virtual Access Points. Such Virtual Access Points partition a single physical access point into many logical access points, each of which can have a special set of security and network settings.

SSID Security Issues

Every user of the network must configure the SSID into their system. If the network administrator seeks to lock a user out of the network, the administrator must change the SSID of the network, which will require reconfiguration of the SSID on every network node. Some 802.11 NICs allow you to configure several SSIDs at one time.

Default SSID's

Most 802.11 access point vendors allow the use of an SSID of "any" to enable an 802.11 NIC to connect to any 802.11 network. This is known to work with wireless equipment from Buffalo Technologies, Cisco, D-Link, Enterasys, Intermec, Lucent, and Proxim. Other default SSID's include "tsunami", "101", "RoamAbout Default Network Name", "Default SSID", and "Compaq".

Every time a client connects to the wireless network, the SSID is communicated in plain text format, which can easily be sniffed by eavesdropper using sniffing applications like Kismet. Hence, additional security techniques are required to be implemented in order to enhance the wireless security.

All the best

How to set my wireless into private ?

Hi,

You can make the network secure putting a password with it. You need to access the Wireless Settings Page of the router. To access the router page you need a working computer that is connected to the router. To access the router page just open a browser then type 192.168.1.1, the Default username is admin and the password is password. Go to the Wireless Settings Page, Under Wireless Security Mode you can select either WEP,WPA or WPA2. Then Personalize your Network Key. The Network Key serves as a password on your network to make it secure.

If this works dont forget to say thanks. Thanks for using Fixya.

How to configure Remote access/VPN server role (using windows as my operating system)?

You can configure a server that allows remote users to access resources on your private network over dial-up or virtual private network (VPN) connections. This type of server is called a remote access/VPN server. Remote access/VPN servers can also provide network address translation (NAT). With NAT, the computers on your private network can share a single connection to the Internet. You can find a step by step guide here:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc736357(WS.10).aspx

Ip conflict after setting up dwl-g710, after setting up the extender i cannot access it because my pc reports an ip conflict, any suggestions would be appreaciated

Hi,

You will get an IP conflict if you have assigned the same IP address on your network devices. Every networking devices should have different network address or IP address. If for example the IP address of your router is 192.168.0.1, then your wireless expander can be configured as 192.168.0.2, 192.168.0.3, 192.168.0.4 and so on but not 192.168.0.1 since it is already being used by the router.

Linksys wireless camera--viewable if ISP uses dynamic IPs?

Ok, everything by default hands out dynamic ip addresses. If the camera is plugged into the network it will automatically pick up an ip address and you would be able to see it in your router config page. Try attaching the camera to the wireless network and then log into your router and look for attached devices. Let me know if you get stuck and where you get stuck.
