water is not extracting out of the carpet after spraying with the shampoo

  • Anonymous May 27, 2008

I just used the hoover shampooer for the first time since purchase. Between fills I stopped for about twenty minutes to eat, started to shampoo again & the shampooer would not extract water from the carpet. Other than making sure that everything was replaced correctly after the change, I don't have any idea what else to do.

I have a DirtDevil Featherlite (Model CE6000, also called the Menager), manufactured by Royal (Ohio) Plant S, some parts probably made in Hong Kong. It has NEVER, ever properly taken water out of the carpet after spraying it in. There is a blue elongated piston that goes up and down. Soon after a tiny bit of water is sucked up, it goes up? (I think it's up), then it no longer sucks water and I have to get another wet-vac to finish the job. Real pain in the neck. I will try to study this problem myself, but any help or comments appreciated as I am really disappointed and I will have to buy another carpet shampooer which I don't want to do. Or else I may have to modify my CE6000. I will be posting some other problems with other vacs, but this is a good start. I love to fix vacuum cleaners when I have time. I have like 10 of them now - mostly Eureka, Hoover, and Royal. Nearly all of them work fine.

I have the same problem with the "blue plug" thing popping up~ so my solution was to cover the outside with a womans nylon (helps trap my dog hair) and than stick the sharp end of a cabob stick through the middle above the blue plug, than break off the excess of the stick.
Works great now!

There's a rotating knob labeled "FLOOR CLEANING" / "TOOLS OR PRETREAT" which controls the diverter flap mentioned in the Nov 13, 2007 response. I found that rotating ours back and forth felt like nothing was connected to it, and while it was supposed to open and close the diverter flap, the flap remained open when I rotated the knob. The flap is visible through the very top of the big clear plastic piece that runs up the front of the machine. I pulled the knob off and found how it was supposed to be connected to control the flap, and with the help of a screwdriver and a lot of patience, I was able to connect the knob correctly, and that fixed the suction problem. It also (somehow) fixed the shampoo sprayer too, which hadn't been working.

Pandagirl34 - One way to test and even fix the lack of suction problem is to cover the end of the hose that's used to clean upholstery, then turn the machine on and see if it extracts the solution from the carpet. The diverter flap first mentioned by "1952" in his/her note is designed to switch the suction from sucking up the solution you sprayed on the carpet when the control knob is in the "FLOOR CLEANING" position, and when the control knob is in the "TOOLS OR PRETREAT" position, the vacuum is connected to the upholstery hose. Blocking the hose temporarily or permanently with an object that's large enough so that it won't be sucked into the hose should help you see what's going on, because when you do that it doesn't matter if the flap isn't in the right position. All the suction will be directed to extracting the solution from the carpet.

Try checking the connection to the attachments. Some times if they arent getting power correctly they will not extract or wont spray solution or what have you.

What products will remove dog wee stain from a carpet?

  • Dog liquid waste turns to crystals when it dries,, the only way to get the crystals out is with hot water extraction. If you use too much water you run the risk of it getting into the padding or the backing of the carpet and then it smells till it dries out. You need to get a carpet shampoo or cleaner that has enzymes in it.

I am shampooing a berber carpet with my Kirby Ultimate G and no excess water or suds accumulate in tray. Either while suds dial is on or off. Why do suds come out under tray in straight line no matte

SYSTEM:
Will work with:
  • Kirby G3 vacuum cleaner
  • Kirby G4 vacuum cleaner
  • Kirby G5 vacuum cleaner
  • Kirby Gsix vacuum cleaner
  • Kirby Ultimate G vacuum cleaner
  • Kirby Ultimate G Diamond vacuum cleaner
  • Kirby Sentria vacuum cleaner
  • Sentria II (Sentria2)
This is unused shampoo attachment. We buy new parts and assemble this shampoo attachment so you will be the first one to use it.
Set includes:
  1. Tray with shield
  2. Nozzle
  3. Brush roll
  4. Belt
  5. Container with cap
  6. Hose
  7. 12 oz. shampoo
NOTE - pictured Kirby Sentria shampooer box may not be included.
If you have never used this shampoo, we highly recommend reading our ONLINE MANUAL. This is a simple but very effective unit but you have to learn how to use it and "common sense" will not be enough! HOW TO - V I D E O S

Tank with soapy solution is attached in place of the bag. It utilizes the air coming out of the exhaust to blow soapy water on a small screen that turns it into thick foam. The foam is simply laid over the carpet (you must vacuum before you shampoo). Foam allows the spread of a small amount of water over the area so carpet is not soaked all the way through. Foam is left on the carpet for a few minutes so it has just enough time to moisten the fibers of the carpet and loosen the dirt (not too long otherwise foam may dry). Then foam maker is set to "OFF" and you slowly pull Kirby vacuum over the area where you laid the foam. The rotating brush in the shampooer nozzle rubs the moisture off carpet fibers and and throws it into the tray in front of the unit. You will not see gallons of dirty water but that is because you did not put it on the rug in the first place. Carpet should dry within 1-4 hours (depends how many times you laid the foam and what is humidity in the room). After it dries it has to be vacuumed. Solution that did not get picked up with the shampooer brush dries and shampoo additives do not let the dirt stick back to the fibers of the carpet. It is loose when it dries so in order to pick up what is left, you must vacuum again.
Shampoo:
You can use any carpet shampoo sold in your local store but make sure that this is carpet shampoo that makes foam and pay attention how much you have to dilute it with water as various shampoo products come in different concentration. Avoid using "just anything" that makes foam. Some household chemicals (such as dishwasher fluid) will do great job but it will leave carpet unprotected so dirt will stick to it so well that you will have a filthy rug in no time. Please assist. i have not use my cleaner in awhile not sure if the clean water goes in the top or bottom.

Hello,

The clean water goes in the upper tank mixed with shampoo, and after the water is extracted from the carpet, it will go into the lower tank. Clean water top tank, dirty water lower tank.

Hope this helped you!

Why is there no water collection in the dirty water holder?

First make sure the unit is dispensing water, if so then check to make sure the lis on the lower tank is snapped on properly and that the front duct panel is installed. the front panel duct MUST be installed for floor operation to extract the solution from the floor.

Having trouble shampooing

I found this on a website. Hope it helps others...

by Mainelyvacs in: Kirby
  • First a short explanation of how the Kirby shampoo system works: Kirby uses a “Dry Foam” type of shampoo. Basically, it spreads a shampoo foam solution on the surface of your carpet. This foam needs to stay on the surface of the carpet until it is completely dry (usually 1 to 2 hours depending on temperature and humidity) As the foam dries, it soaks up grease and dirt. You then vacuum the carpet and up comes the shampoo residue along with the absorbed dirt and grease. It does a very good job on the surface but will not extract stains from the bottom of the carpet or carpet pad. Several other brands such as Electrolux, Hoover and Koblenz make Carpet Cleaning machines that use the same system.
So, you’ve read your manual, you’ve removed the carpet cleaning nozzle and the bag assembly from your Kirby, you’ve installed your shampoo tank and carpet shampooing nozzle tray and you start to shampoo but all you get on your carpet is a puddle of soapy water and no foam. Here’s a few things to look for:
  • Make sure you are using a Dry Foam Shampoo(preferably Kirby) and NOT an extraction shampoo, the Rug Doctor shampoo you had left over from your last rental will not work.
  • Make sure you have the correct mixture. If you are using Kirby Dry foam shampoo you simply fill the tank with water and put a tank cap full of shampoo in with the water. You can use other brands of “Dry Foam” shampoo, but the mixture ratio may be different, so read the label first.
  • Don’t reuse last year’s leftover mixture, it’s probably no good.
  • Make sure a family member didn’t pour any leftover mixture back into the empty shampoo bottle - further diluting a mixture will not produce any foam.
  • Don’t use shampoo that’s seen extreme temperatures.
  • Check the tank and make sure that the sponge filter is in place and if it is in place that it is not deteriorated. The sponge filter is located under the tank at the point where you attach the tank to the hole that you removed the bag assembly from.
  • Check the hose that runs from the tank to the nozzle. It should have a screen in the end that attaches to the tank (older models had a cloth screen with a metal retainer, models after 1989 have a 1 piece metal and plastic screen.

Instructions or manuel was not included.

i downloaded the manual for your machine, but not sure how to access it for you,but i do know about the problem, the tank that sits down on the front of the steamer and it has 2 clips that you push in to lock the tank is where your dirty water is put in when you are cleaning your carpets. the tank above ,the one where you put your solution and water in is what is used to shampoo your carpet. on the handle is a trigger (black) button ,this is the button you push in to release your solution onto your carpet. release the button to extract the water from your carpet, moving your steamer in a back and forth motion. the trigger button is the only button on the machine and is only used to put the water /cleaner located in the upper tank on your carpet, releasing this button and moving your steamer back and forth over the shampooed part with extract your dirty water into the tank that sits below the solution tank. go on www.hoover.com and click on carpet cleaners ,scroll down to find yours and click on manual. and the owner manual will download and you can print it out for future reference, i hope this will solve your problem, sandy
