Epson C1100 Service Req Error E537

My printer has been acting up for some timee, getting very hot, and recalibrating after every few sheets. Now it has stopped altogether with the above error. Does anyone have a diagnosis?

I think it may be the fuser unit, but am seeking confirmation. Another suggestion was to "unplug it from the surge protector" i.e. plug direct to mains. I haven't been able to test that yet (the printer belongs to a less computer-literate friend).

  • gregfenb Nov 11, 2007

The printer is now being scrapped - cost of repair likely to exceed cost of new printer.

  • gregfenb Dec 06, 2007

I have decided to junk the printer - a new fuser unit is too expensive!

E537 is listed as FUSER FAIL: ? Control Thermistor detected a temperature exceeding the specified temperature. Safety Thermistor detected a temperature exceeding the specified temperature. ? The Control Thermistor did not detect a Ready even though the specified time elapsed from Main Lamp ON at Warm Up. ? The Main Lamp continues to stay lit even after time specified for the Main Lamp elapsed after the Control Thermistor detected a Ready. ? The Control Thermistor detected a temperature below the specified temperature even after the specified time elapsed from Main Lamp ON at Warm Up. ? The latch lever of FUSER ASSY is set incorrectly. You should replace the fuser unit. If the error remain after changing the fuser you need to take the machine for service as the error may relate to the power supply units.

I too just disconnected power and reconnected. Surge protection should be okay, but not UPS you're not supposed to run printers, heaters or lamps from a UPS battery backup.
It's definately the fuser unit, it jammed right after a print. If turning off and on doesnt solve it, try opening up the printer remove the fuser find the cogs and turn them a bit by hand then re-insert, reboot the printer and try over. Failing that could bee more serious issue and probably worth looking at replacement printers!

Try it several times especially if the printer is old EoL on laser printers is probably a 4-6 year life span.

Just for info...
I often get this problem with a printer server. I think it may be a USB-data transfer problem.
I loften get it if I start a data transfer just after powering up the printer. Usually if I wait a minute or two before sending a print job it works ok

I HAVE E511 PROBLEM ON THE C1100

The "Service Req E511" error message means that part of the photoconductor unit called the transfer belt is not being detected. Please see the following Epson article which may help. http://www.epson.co.uk/Store/Printers-and-All-in-Ones/Epson-Aculaser-C1100/Drivers-Support?target=article&extn=.html&articleId=1319

Light flashing Service req E537

E537 specifies that the fuser unit has failed and will require replacing. Before that try removing the fuser, cleaning the electrical contacts and refitting it a couple of times - it could just be dirty contacts or incorrectly seated. To do this, turn off the printer, open the top back cover (if the printer has been turned on the fuser may be hot so be careful). There are two "latches" on top of the fuser which need to be rotated to the unlocked position (look for the arrows pointing to the padlock symbols). Next look at the L/H side at the front of the fuser, there is a little pale plastic "paddle" that needs to be rotated up to allow the removal of the fuser. (NB - on older printers this is a solid piece of plastic held in by a screw, you will need to remove this!) The fuser unit will now lift straight up and out of the printer using the two top latches to lift it. Refitting is a straight reversal of the above. If this fails then visit Epson.com for contact details of a parts stockist near you or just google "Epson C1100 fuser unit" to find an on-line supplier. Hope this helps.

Service req E537

E537 is a Fuser Unit error, it most likely requires replacing but first try a few simple checks. Lift the scanner unit upwards out of the way and open the top rear cover to expose the fuser unit. Check that it is seated properly and that both "latches" are in the locked position. Try unlocking them and removing/reseating the fuser (there is a small plastic hinged piece on the L/H side of the printer that needs lifting to allow removal). If all of this fails you will need to replace the fuser unit. A google search should turn up a stockist in your area as they are listed as consumable items.

Please take a moment to rate this solution. Thanks.

Epson Aculaser C1100 E537

Hi there

This suggests a fuser error. This is the hot unit at the rear top of the machine.

Steps are as follows:-

1. Open COVER FUSER.
2. Draw out the COVER RH boss from the hole on COVER FUSER while pushing
COVER RH outward, and remove COVER FUSER.

After removal check coninuity across heater lamp amd thermistor terminals. If either shows anyhing more than 13 Ohms then you need to replace your fuser unit.

Anything more than that requires hands on technical expertise.

Good luck
