Which service pack are u using? If its genuine Microsoft then update to Service Pack-3 and any patches released thereafter. But first check ur BIOS setting for the USB and check which option has been selected, i.e. FULL SPEED or HIGH SPEED? Whichever one is enable try changing to the other option, save your changes and continue. If neither works visit the Motherboard manufactures website for any BIOS update, if available. BIOS update is the LAST OPTION and don' t try it first!!!! Keep this as THE LAST OPTION....sodeep

Canon 450D is not being recognised by my computer (I run xp 32-bit). When I turn on the camera, windows comes up with a "install new hardware" option. I have installed the EOS utility etc. but still the...

Both the Canon XT 350D and the XTi 400D are recognized by any PC with XP windows operative system. It seems you have to check your USB port or USB cable used to connect your cameras to the PC. Sometimes, the PC does not recognize a specific device connected to an USB port. Yopu can get into the System -device manager screen, and uninstall the USB port, and run the utility to recognize changes in the device manager. This will install the USB port driver again, and if it is a software issue the reason of the problem, then it will be fixed.

Also, you can check your cameras and USB cable in a different PC so you can confirm if they both work has should be.
