Had the same problem and nearly went nuts trying to fix it. Here's what I did:
1. Uninstall all creative driver & creative software.
2. Uninstalled Windows Media Player 11 (Rolled back to WMP 10) and restarted PC.
3. Uninstalled Windows Media Player 11 Runtime and restarted PC.
4. Downloaded and Installed the latest free version of Winamp from
http://www.winamp.com
5. Connected my A/C Power Cord to my Nomad Jukebox then connected my Nomad Jukebox via USB cable to the Computer.
The computer should then recognize the Nomad Jukebox as "Found New Hardware" then "MTP Device" and lastly "Your new hardware is installed and ready to use.
6. If you haven't already, go to the creative website and download the Creative Zen Xtra PlaysForSure Firmware 2.10.03 and save it to your computer.
7. Run the Firmware (Make sure Nomad Jukebox is connected) and at this point the Computer should recognize the Nomad Jukebox and begin the upgrade.
After your upgrade is complete, You can go ahead and re-download Windows Media Player 11 and it will recognize the Nomad Jukebox. Not sure what version of windows you have, but I have two computers, one with windows xp and the other has windows 7 and Im able to transfer music perfectly fine with Windows Media Player and RealPlayer on both computers. I hope this works for you. Good Luck!
My creative media source does not recognize my creative zen micro i dont know why. i lost my cd that came with the player when i first bought it.
i downloaded a driver from another website and i have the "sync:" option but on the media source i dont my "zen micro" next to, or under my "PC library" in the libraries section.
what am i supposed to do if i want to load music onto it from my pc library or use my player to just store data?
Okay, so the problem really was on the Creative media Source 5. My Zen Micro could be detected by my PC as an MTP device. I can confirm that by opening HARDWARE PROFILES at the CONTROL PANEL. I can sync too with Windows Media Player. That means, there's no problem with my player regardless of whether it has USB 1 or 2 connections. I don't have USB 2, and my player's happy with USB 1 before I upgraded to the Pre - released version of Windows XP Service Pack 3.
The real problem is when I try to sync my player with Creative Media Source, it says "no Creative player connected". I already reinstalled Windows XP Service Pack 2, and rolled back to Windows media Player 9 but with the same result.
I tried reloading the Firmware but the firmware upgrader wont detect my Micro as well. I didn't erase the old firmware as I'm afraid that the new one will not be installed and rendered my player useless.
I have my player hacked with a new 1 GByte CF card as a replacement after my old HD drive failed.
Please help, I need to organize my songs' mp3 tags and playlist with Creative Media Source. I'm not used to using Windows Media Player to organize the songs and playlists that were already saved in my Zen Micro...
I think I got the solution to my problem posted here recently. The problem really is a corrupted file in the Zen Micro's firmware, version 2.21.02 (ZenMicroP4S_PCFW_L16_2_21_02).
What I did was to roll back to version 1.11.01 (ZenMicroPDE_PCFW_LB_1_11_01).
You can get the old firmware version of the Zen Micro here:
http://drivers.softpedia.com/progDownloa...
Before running the uploader, be sure to roll back Windows media Player 11 to version 10. Media Player 11 will not recognize the player. Back-up your data and music file. This firmware upgrader will format your player and erases all the saves file in your player's HD or converted CF card.
This firmware roll back however resets all settings and require you to create another playlists copy all music files to the newly formatted disk. But it works! Creative Media Source would recognize the player once more and read all the data!
So it is not really with the USB issue but with the firmware itself.

I have the same problem after upgrading to Windows XP SP3 (final release). Now my ZEN V Media Explorer no longer recognizes my ZEN V. However, this is NOT an issue with Media Player 11 as the OP noted. I have been using Media Player 11 for a while and not had any problem with my ZEN V not being recognized until after SP 3 was applied.
It should be Creative's responsiblity to provide a patch for this that does not require rolling back or unintstalling things since it is their hardware device. Hopefully they will have a fix sooner rather than later.
cant install it because i lost the disc
if my pc can't recognize my zen micro, the firmware installer (for the 1.11..firmware) also can't recognize him, so is there a way around this problem or am I just stuck with the 2.21.02 firmware ???
when i turn it on it says firmware problem and goes into recovery mode
Hi...
I trying to update my firmware version , cause a have a lot of problems and now nether Windows Media player 10 or Media Source detect my player.
I trying to upgrade the firmware but it won´t detected... can help ??
Hello guys!
For all of you with problems with your Zen Micro's PC connectivity or upgrading
to the latest Firmware, check your player's hard drive. If you hear a seriex of unwanted clicking sound, then your ZM had drive might be damaged
If you had spare hard drive, replace your old Zen Micro's HD. Or better yet,
replace the hard disk with a compatible Compact Flash (CF) Cards. I say
compatible because some brands of CF cards won't work on the Zen Micro. I used
the YES Brand (Chinese cheapie brand) of Compact Flash with amazing result.
Also, another hack forum suggest a Sandisk brand though I never tried this.
Stay with these brands mentioned and you could never go wrong.
Stay away from KINGSTON
brand or RIDATA... I tried both and they won't work on the Zen Micro.
I copied and paste my other FIXYA solution below for your reference. The following solution applies to both Zen Micro and Zen Microphoto, so feel free to follow the instruction below on repairing ot replacing your Zen Micro's Hard Drive with a suitable CF Card.

I
suppose that you have a bad hardisk. I have repaired several models of
Creative Zen including the hardisk types (Zen Micro, Microphoto, Neeon,
Zen 20 Gbytes, and your problems points to a bad hardisk symptoms.
Either the disk or the read/ write head stuck up. Do you hear clicks in
the player upon startup? If yes, then do the following procedures:
If
you're out of warranty, then you might want to open your player, and do
some repair yourself, but be very careful. Somebody has posted on how
to dismantle the ZEN MICRO/ ZEN MICROPHOTO , please search for the site.
Once you got to the hard disk, carefully remove it from the player...
Remove
the sticker. There's some holes in the cover, can you see the disk and
the read/ write shaft? Insert a piece of wire or anything that can be
used to move the shaft a little, again be very careful. AVOID
SCRATCHING THE DISK OR, Move it to the right. If you're lucky to have
just a jammed or stucked shaft, then you just save bucks. Replace
everything and test your player.
You might want to modify your
player by replacing the hardisk into a compatible compact flash. it is
the same size and same pinouts. A step-by-step procedure has been
posted somewhere, please search for that.
If you're player
powers up and freezes on creative logo, or go to the recovery mode
directly, then your player still works, and you just got a hardisk
problem. try replacing it.
