What you will likely find if you can get the set apart---Its a real heavy set is follow the power cord to the board---real high chance you will find one of the three leads on that part has broken loose from the board, happens from all the heat at turn on that part gets real hot for a very short time.

You would be smart if one lead has come loose to solder all three---the part is often referred to as a thermistor--as it gets hot it cuts voltage off to the coil.

The other possible cause is only possible if set fell forward or was dropped, in that case the damage is fatal and cannot be repaired.

what kind of universal remote control are you trying to program? most universals have a channel search feature, you need to locate the code or set up key, press and hold the key until the light stays lit, release and press the tv key once, then press the power key continuously until the tv goes off, stop pressing power when tv goes off and press the enter key once this will leave tv remote set for your tv operation.
