Do you have the master disk or any disk that came with the computer?  If so, what are they?

Hey if you have the Utilities disk or any Mac OS install disk, place that in the computer, restart and hold down the c key.
That prompts the computer to boot from the cd.  If it gets past the question mark folder, then we are making progress.
At this point exit out of the installer, (unless you want to do a new install)  look through the top menus, to find the utilities options that will allow you to run a diagnostic and repair.  That should get you on the right path.
Let me know if this gets you back up again.
I do have some other steps that may also work if the problem persist.
Have a great one!

Why does a question mark on a folder blink at startup and not turn on laptop?

Hi Joe. It means that the start-up drive has some corruption of some sort. I've posted previously what to do in such situations so just search for flashing question mark and there's a walkthrough of possible fixes.

My MacBook OSX will not open and I keep getting a file shaped folder with a question mark blinking?

Hello
That looks like your Mac does not see the System folder, for multiple reasons:
- Your hard drive needs repair / change- Your system files have bad permissions or are missing (to check this, disk utility in the Utilities folder cane good help)- Your hard drive has been erased or partitioned.
Hope that helps

Dropped my notebook and now it won't boot up. It shows a blinking folder with a question mark.

the hard drive is busted.
a folder with ? means it can't read or detect the hard drive.

you will need to purchase a new hard drive and reinstall osx on it.
unfortunately the data is prolly gone as well.

Won't turn on

The problem in blank white screen is the display (LCD). Send it to a technician for repair. The blinking folder with a question mark is conflict on drivers. Have you installed a software lately? If you do please uninstall it. Maybe that is the cause of having a blank white screen.

Your Mac is saying it cannot find the operating system. Usually due to corrupt startup files or hard drive death.

Blinking file folder with question mark and a DVD is stuck in it

Hello, The blinking file folder with the question mark can happen when the computer doesn't "see" your System. It can be caused by a faulty hard drive, or by a damaged operating system. You can try to reboot the mac, hold the mouse button during 20 seconds to eject the CD, then insert you installation DVD (leopard). Reboot the Mac again, and hold the "C" key. Select english, the go to the tools menu, and Disk Utility. Go to the SOS tab, select your drive and click "repair". If something red appears, it means that it has found something wrong on your hard drive. Best regards
