SOURCE: no HDMI video output from AVR-588 receiver to plasma TV ???

You can also use a digital coax cable (color orange) to go into coax 1 for DVD coax 2 for cable box. Just make sure to set the coax in input settings. The coax cables are a little cheaper than the optical cables and work just as well.

SOURCE: Powers on 5 sec then powers off

There is a bad resistor that causes the unit to go into standby. For once, I actually bought an extended warranty from Sears who wound up taking the unit back FOUR times to replace the faulty resistor. The last time, I actually researched the problem myself and informed the repair shop that they need to upgrade the component to a higher voltage component - this actually fixed the problem for longer, but not much longer. I would trash it.

SOURCE: set up

You don't need to fake it with a VCR - on the back left side near the bottom there is a Monitor section with an RCA connection and an S-Video connection. Connect one of these to an input connection on your tv and switch your tv to show that input. Select the AMP setting of your remote and press Setup.

Hello Fixya team, I need help!

To set up your home theater system with the equipment you mentioned, follow these steps:
  1. Connect the Onkyo receiver to the NEC TV using an HDMI cable. Make sure the HDMI input on the TV is set to the correct input for the Onkyo receiver.
  2. Connect the Panasonic DVD player to the Onkyo receiver using an HDMI cable.
  3. Connect the Firestick Lite to the Onkyo receiver using an HDMI cable.
  4. Connect the Panasonic speakers to the Onkyo receiver using speaker wires. Make sure you connect the speakers to the correct speaker terminals on the receiver, which are usually labeled with the speaker's position (e.g. front left, front right, center, surround left, surround right).
  5. Configure the Onkyo receiver to use the correct input for each device. For example, set the input to "DVD" when you want to watch a movie on the Panasonic DVD player, or set the input to "Firestick" when you want to watch content on the Firestick Lite.
  6. Configure the audio settings on the Onkyo receiver to use the correct audio format for your content. For example, if you are watching a movie with Dolby Digital surround sound, make sure the receiver is set to decode Dolby Digital audio.
  7. Adjust the volume and other audio settings on the Onkyo receiver as needed to optimize the sound quality.
Once you have completed these steps, you should be able to enjoy surround sound audio from your Panasonic speakers through the Onkyo receiver.

turns on for a few seconds then immediately goes into standby, attempted to reset by holding in on speaker a and b as instructed with no luck, any other suggestions?
A very obvious evidence shows there is a DC coming out of the speaker terminals.

https://www.hifiengine.com/manual_library/denon/avr-681.shtml?_e_pi_=7%2CPAGE_ID10%2C1610027943

first download service manual.
check any DC voltages developed at the speaker
output terminals. Differential amps got damaged ,shorted, are common. Check for any shorted transistors of pre-amp stage which amplifies voltage.

I have a Denon AVR 790 for about 8 months now. Hooked up a combo DVD VCR player using the red/yello/white cables. It worked fine for about 6 months. Now I cannot get the DVD or VCR to play. I get sound,...

Hi,
If dvd combo player is only video source connected with Denon AVR 790 then unplug yellow video wire from Denon and plug it directly in TV input, now video signal will go directly to tv and sound will come from Denon AVR 790 speakers during dvd playback.
This is simple bypass that wont effect surround sound of dvd playback.
Let me know if you have additional question.
Thanks.

DVD player and receiver will not play a dvd in surround sound ?

The dvd player is responsible for reading the surround sound track, and sending it to the receiver. First make sure you are playing the surround sound track on the dvd, many have a stereo track too. Next, try another dvd and see if you can play surround sound on that one. If you can't play surround on ANY dvd I would start looking at the audio connection from dvd to receiver. Are you using an optical cable? Red, white, and yellow RCA cables? Optical will transmit any sound over only one cable, RCA cables need one cable for each channel (LF, C, RF, LR, RR, sub.) If your connections are correct, is the receiver set to play a surround sound track? Is it set in 2 channel mode?
