    Hi rune321,

The connection fail error code description is failure in connecting to the server. Please try to update again using the steps below.

In order to use the firmware update, ensure that you have the correct system requirements and setting for a broadband internet connection.

If you have an Internet provider contract for a line on which network settings are made manually, make the settings at "Network connecting (DHCP=Off)"
    • With this unit, it is possible to use the DHCP and Auto IP functions to make the network settings automatically.
    • When using this unit with the broadband router's DHCP function enabled, this unit automatically performs the IP address setting and other settings.
    • When using this unit connected to a network with no DHCP function, make the settings for the IP address, etc., at "Network connecting (DHCP=Off)".
    • When setting manually, check the setting contents with the network administrator

Perform the firmware update operation after at least 2 minutes has elapsed since turning this unit's power ON.

    1. Press [menu]. Turn on the Menu settings mode and the Menu appears on the display.

    2. Use the down and up arrow to select [other] - [firmware update] then press [enter] or the play button.

    3. check for update [check for firmware update]. You can also check approximately how long it will take ti complete an update.

    4. Start. Execute the update process.

--> if updating fails, the set automatically retries, but if updating is still not possible check the settings and network environment, then update again.

Note: • Do not turn off the power until updating is completed.
    • Even with a broadband connection to the Internet, approximately 20 minutes is required for the updating procedure to be completed.
    • Once updating starts, normal operations on this unit cannot be performed until updating is completed.
    • Furthermore, updating the fi rmware may reset the backup data for the parameters, etc. set for this unit.
    • If the update fails, remove and re-insert the power cord. "Update retry" appears on the display and update restarts from the point at which update failed. If the error continues despite this, check the
    network environment.

    Hope it helps.

    Thank you for using FixYa.

Unplug for 30 seconds & plug back in & it will attempt the update again. Mine corrected the "connection fail 03" error. It's quite alarming to think a passive update option could brick your reciever. I can't believe someone would say take it to dealer before unplugging it first.

I have a denon avr-400 receiver. When running a firmware update, i got the error message: Connection fail:03. Now, my receiver is not working. stuck in this endless cycle of failure messages. Help

Unfortunately a failed firmware update will result in an inoperative unit. The solution is to update the firmware directly to the chip. Not a DIY solution. A local Denon repair center will be equipped to do that for a nominal fee. Your unit is a bit older to get much help from the main company.
If you are handy you need a chip burner and the proper setup and then force the firmware onto the chip. Lot of computer guys may have that around to help.

Good luck

a) Have you tried finding updated Driver for your Windows2000?

b) Have you performed Firmware Update?

See Jan Karlsbjerg's blog at

BUT NOTE, that Jan was talking about 895 model. Follow similar steps, but use firmware for YOUR 795 model (find it via web search).

Denon AVR-X2400H Intermittent Protection Mode on startup Apologies for the incoming wall of text. Whenever my Denon AVR-X2400H receiver has been off for several hours most regularly in the morning, it will often go into protection mode on start. This has been happening for months. After anywhere from a minute to 20 minutes, after many restarts/moving the unit around/swearing, it will start normally and function without issue for hours until the next long period of being off. It is the dreaded PRT: DC. During this period of protection mode, it will fail to start even if I disconnect everything but power. I have swapped the power cables, tried different outlets, and let it get plenty of airflow though if it were temp related it would be a different code / not happen on first startup. I even opened up the unit, disassembled it and looked for moisture/scorch marks/loose cables before re-assembling. I have performed a couple factory resets over the last couple months. I assume the intermittent startup nature hints at a failing but not failed part, but am not sure what to replace. I have access to an engineer friend / multimeter if helpful. It is well out of warranty, but there's a part of me that wants to believe it can be salvaged, especially given current AVR prices. Other things I have tried include leaving it in ECO/network standby. There was a period where spinning the source wheel on startup would cause the AVR to lock up but not trigger protection, after which unplugging/replugging would allow it to start normally. Not exactly scientific.
