Your friend
actually gave you some good advice. The alcohol twice a day on the ear is a way
of preventing infection in the new holes. Twisting the new earrings around
every day several times will help keep movement and stop the earrings from
sticking. It will also help the holes to be a good size and not close up. It
sounds a bit scary but it shouldn't hurt at all. Good luck.
That's a
really complex question and depends on many things including your daughter's
age. I don't think there is a clear cut law requiring piercers to get
permission before doing it to minors but I would think that in the case of
younger kids coming to them without a parent, most shops/ salons would clarify
first. If you daughter is a teenager, it's unlikely that people will request
parental approval.
Piercing is
very common and socially acceptable these days. Many parents worry about their
kids getting excessive amounts of piercings or doing it in strange places on
the body but if your daughter wants just earrings in her ear lobes, you might
find it's easier not to oppose her and hopefully then prevent her feeling the
need to defy you.
Piercings
are very much a matter of taste. Whilst one hole in the ear lobe was always the
more traditional norm, it has become increasingly popular to have multiple
piercings and people don't just stick to the ear lobe but also use the
cartilage to add studs etc.
But in theory you can fit 3 holes in the ear lobe as it's the softest and biggest part of the ear.
Getting an
infected earlobe around the site of your earring is actually very common but
does need treating.
The signs of
infection are:
Red, swollen
earlobe
Sore to
touch
Pus coming
out of the hole
If you think you have an infection you need to use alcohol to clean it several times a day and possibly to get an anti-biotic cream. If it doesn't get better after a few days, you should consult with a doctor.
Yes - first
of all you should always wash your hands before you change your earrings. The
holes are very sensitive to infections. Using alcohol on cotton balls swabs to
sanitize your holes and the earrings before you put them in and after you take
them out is a major reducer of potential infection
