Hi all. I'm still having problems with my HP 1520n desktop. I still can't get it to come on. No power button light; no fans running; it simply won't do anything. The light on the back of the power supply is on so thats fine. I'm wondering what kind of tools a person would need to test various parts in a tower. ALSO I've looked and looked for this little tiny orange button on the motherboard that I need to push and I cannot find it at all. I need HELP PLS!!
I always start with the power supply. Your power supply may not be producing all the power your motherboard is requesting, even though the light on the back is on. If you dont have a power supply tester, then you can try removing your power supply and trying a known working supply in it, making sure you have the right connectors on it for your motherboard..
I looked at a pic of your motherboard Asus A8n-vm and I dont see an orange (or any) button to push. Was that to reset your bios? If so, unplug the system from the wall, and carefully remove the battery from the motherboard. While it is out, push the power button on the front of the computer a few times. The computer wont start up, as you have it unplugged, its just to drain the motherboard of power to reset the bios. Then reinstall the battery, making sure it goes in the same as it came out (- is usually down and + is up). This should reset the bios info to the factory settings. But I still think it is a faulty power supply.

Open the case and make sure all the connectors are attached and where they should be.

sounds like it is in standby mode..........try pressing and holding the power button until it turns off fully. then remove the power cable to reset the power supply, wait for 5 mins then plug in and try again,
it is also possible that you have a fault , possibly a failed power supply, it might be best to investigate that if the power reset doesn't work

The first and least expensive thing to trouble shoot is the power supply, you may have fried *********** borad, but replace the power supply first. You can get them for around $40+. I would also recomend that you buy a surge protector and plug your computer into that instead of directly into the wall.
Good Luck.

Hello,
There are only two ways this can go for you.
One- you need a new power supply
OR
Two, you need a new mother board
You can verify the power supply by checking it on another machine
If the power suppy is good
And you do not hear the bios beep- then you are looking at a new motherboard- I would double check the powersupply first- most stores that sell them will let you check before you buy a new powersupply.
