GE JVM1440 just stopped working.

Fan works, lights work, timer works but no matter how I try to run the microwave it doesn't make a sound and the tray does not spin.

Can they be fixed or is it a replacement?

Mine just started the exact same thing. Let it sit for about 20 mins and clock comes on again, but then goes black when trying to cook something.

Excellent. The video was helpful (but I'd suggest using lighter colored machines and a light to help people see better) and I followed your directions.
I'd add that before pullin gout the control panel people should look on the sides and around to see if anything else needs to be unscrewed (I found one on top that held a grill , I think into the control panel top, and one on the bottom right that in the end didn't need to be pulled.... better safe)
It looks like you know your business. the primary interlock was moved when the door closed but did not engage the bottom piece to make electrical contact. To verify this was the problem I plugged the machine back in, verified the door was closed, pushed the 30 second on button, and used a plastic (non conductive) rod to manually push the bottom piece to make contact. The machine came to life, I'm ordering the part now. T H A N K Y O U !!!

This is almost always the primary interlock (bottom door switch) or its mount is loose or cracked.

Door switch or mount trouble is usually caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

There are plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door latches lock when you close the door.

The screws on these mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be activated properly.

Sometimes it's a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position. This tab can be hard to see, since it is under the bottom edge of the switch.

It's usually more economical and safer to add a dab or two of hot glue to the mount to secure the switch. Let it cool for about 30 minutes before using.

One test that sometimes helps is to gently lift up (and/or push down) on the door or handle as you try to start it. If it works or tries to work, then it's a door switch mount or door alignment issue.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

If you only need a switch, you can order a universal type here for $5 postpaid.

Turntable, fan, and bottom lights are not working, but microwave itself works. Is there a fuse that is common to these 3 items, and if so what kind is it and how do you get at it? - Thanks !

open up thye case and carefully discharge the h.v. capacitor after unplugging unit, there is only 1 fuse and unit wont run at all if this fuse is bad, then wiggle all the wire harness connections at all connection points,it sounds like a bad connection only

It just stopped heating yesterday but the light

you say it has aloud hum to it? And everything works but no heat.Im going to give you a list of things it could be and you'll have to take microwave apart to do the work. Beforre you start get some small trays or pill bottles to put screws in. Make sure when you take a screw out you know where it goes back because all the screws may not be same length. First, You may have a blown fuse in the HV transformer primary circuit, The HV transformer is the largest thing you'll see when you take the cabinet of the frame.Second, bad connections for the magnetron filament the magnetron will have what looks like fins or louvers around it.look for bad wire connections. Third, could be a faulty thermal protector or fuse, More than likely its either going to be the HV transformer or the magnetron thats bad.

GE JVM1440 microwave - Fan only works on 'low' speed

Only working on low would probably be either a bad blower motor or a bad main circuit board. I dont remember ever having to replace a blower, but the main board has relays that switch back and forth for what ever speed you are trying to use. Problem is the main board will be quite expensive. May want to look at prices on new units. And remember on a new unit you get full factory warranties on everything.

IT COULD BE A NUMBER OF THINGS RANGING FROM DIODES TO CAPACITORS TO YOUR MAGNATRON OR THERMOSTAST OR TRANSFORMERS. IT'S DIFFICULT TO DIAGNOSE WITHOUT SEEING THIS MICROWAVE. YOU MAY BE BETTER OFF GETTING YOURSELF A DIFFERENT ONE.

Assuming that your internal cooling fan is working, I would suspect that your magnetron is failing.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the
left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

I would check the cooling fan, then suspect the magnetron.

Fan and light constantly on

which fan? the exhaust fan or the control board cooling fan? the cooling fan is controlled by a thermostat just behind the control panel. it turns the fan to protect the board from overheating.

My JVM1440 sometimes runs when I shut the door

It's almost certainly a door switch going bad or a loose door switch mount. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, info and a text file which helps in diagnosing and repairing door switch problems at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number (without the suffix) here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383
