No Portal device opens

On the Samsung Media 2 out of 4 windows (My PC and Burn CD) open always. The CD window opens when I insert a CD to CD driver. But the Portal device window does not open. Steps I've taken to solve this problem: Connected the player to my Computer via USB. Run Samsung Media. Chose songs to transfer to the Player. But the Portable device not active. Before it opened once, but not at a time when I want to renew the songs in my player.

What may be wrong, is that OS has stopped recognising your MP3 Player as a USB drive, which stops programs acknowledging your MP3 players existence. A solution for windows (98 upwards I believe), is to go to your Device Manager (Look in the Control Panel, and look for Device Manager or Hardware, depending on your windows version). Make sure your MP3 player is plugged in. This is important, it must be plugged in. Now look under the category 'Portable Devices', and you should see the name of your mp3 player there. Right click it, and select 'Uninstall' from the drop down menu. Confirm that you want too remove the driver. After removing them, windows should then recognise your mp3 player is plugged in, but has no drivers, so it'll go and look for some drivers. At this point, if your CD came with any drivers for your MP3 player, follow the instruction too install them. If this solution works, and the problem happens again, just repeat these instructions, and it may fix it again.

How to copy to cd from my desktop?

It depends on the OS you are using.
If you are using windows XP, upon inserting the cd, click the cd icon on 'My Computer'. When that opens up, you would be open to a 'CD burining' window. Copy what ever you want to copy from the desktop onto that window, then by the left, you would see an option 'Burn these files to CD'. Click it and the CD burning window would be open, insert the cd title, then go on with the burning. When you are done, you would have you data on the cd.

If your OS is windows Vista or windows 7, insert the CD, a dialog box would open up, you would be asked if you want to format the CD, select the option 'live formatting'.
When you are done with formatting, your CD would be like any other flash drive or external disk. You can then copy onto it from the desktop.
Hope that was helpful?
Success.

Media center does not play cds or dvds please help

You have to check your CD/DVD Rom to make sure the device is not faulty.

Open your Windows Explorer, insert any CD/DVD to see whether your CD/DVD is able to read the the disk.

If it cannot read the disk, most probably the CD/DVD rom is faulty and you have to replace it.

How do I format a CD-R in windows xp

Unless your using a program you don't really format a CD-R, sometimes you erase a CD-RW but if your looking to put data on a disk you insert your blank disk and then you can go to then disk and put files to be copied on the disk, Then you run the windows write to disk wizard. it is located under FIle and says " Write these files to CD " You can also burn music with windows media player by selecting the copy to CD or Media device or by selecting the Burn tab on the top of the media player on newer versions of windows media player.

Cd burner

You may want to double-check the "error" message. Normally, when you insert a blank CD-R or CD-R/W you'll see a pop-up message that says something like, "you've inserted a blank CD. What program do you want to use to put something on it?" And then it will give a list of programs like Windows Media Player, Nero Burning ROM, Roxio, MyDVD, etc. The last two choices are "Open a writeable folder" and "Do nothing." The next to last, the open folder, option is the CD recording option for Windows. Once you've put copies of that data into the new window click on the "burn these files to disc" link on the left side or located under the File menu at the top of the window.

Now, if it truly is telling you that you have to insert a blank CD, then you may have one of two problems. Either the CD you're putting in is NOT actually blank or the drive is having problems recognizing the media. To test the first scenario, try the disc on another computer. If it's truly blank, then try uninstalling the CD burner from your Device Manager located in the Windows control panel. Double-click on the System icon > Hardware tab > Device Manager > click on the (+) symbol next to DVD/CD-ROM drives and then highlight your Sony CD burner > right-click and in the menu choose Uninstall. Reboot your system and let Windows redetect the drive and reinstall the drivers (You may want to have any install discs handy, just in case Windows asks for them, but not likely).

I hope that helps!
