How do i update the map database?
I actually had the exact same problem...
And after searching google and ask for 2 hours to no avail I noticed SEVERAL other people owning this GPS wanted to get some new map updates
Well after having done a little research on the nextar website and to my surprise they actually had a contact phone number where someone answered on the second ring....
She then placed me on hold for about 30 seconds then came back saying that several people have called and asked for the same thing so Nextar is in the process of making them right now...
They explained to me that map upgrades will be available by end of this summer :D
Nextar fans may rejoice as our long awaited map updates finally have some light shined down upon them :)
Nextar did not implement map update feature yet. Q4 manual will not tell you how to put the unit in USB mode to upgrade map from NAVTEQ dvd if you bought one. If you still want to do it yourself - copy first your original 2GB SD card to new one, 4 or 8GB, to play with update on new card. You may have to ask tech support how to get USB mode to replace your randomly 'failing' SD card w/o special SD card reader.
Also you may use Microsoft ActiveSync software on your desktop to connect your GPS:

Nexstar Exchange Program. If you bought your Q4-01 from a major dealer like Best Buy, take it back and ask for a promotion code and their agent code. If you are successful in getting those two items or even if you can't, go to www.nexstar.com and click on their support link. Select the "Exchange Program" link and look for online processing. If you don't have a promo code, it will cost you $80, but you can get a new model with more features and the ability to update the maps. The promo code will save you some money, how much depends on unknown factors.
Is there a way to use Windows Vista system with the Nextar 04-04? I bought it before I saw it was compatible with my computer. Help!

Buy A NEW ONE. THE NEXTAR Q401 CAN'T UP DATE MAPS TILL END OF SUMMPER. THAT DOES NOT HELP ME AT ALL. I GOT THIS SO I WOULD NOT GET LOST . DA.

I need to find out if I can update my Nextar Q4 01. and if theres a way to download lakes and rivers like some gps devices!
I also can not find how to up-date the map on my q4-01? Please help.
