Screen fades - unit shuts down - GPSmap 60Csx

Usually after a longer rooute calculation, even with new batteries or on external power, screen fades, colour drains and unit shuts down, restart will sometimes continue the calculation - sometimes whilst tracking position in the car with car power cord in, after a variable time unit fades and shuts down again. Currently got UK Topo installed, and about 60 waypoints saved . Memory Chip is 1Gb - could it be insufficient memory? would installing a 4Gb chip solve it? - Is it a recognised problem with this model? - otherwise it is great, portable and v useful- but the glitch makes me less inclined to rely on it............Anybody help??

I had the problem where I ended up disassembling the Garmin and adding a small piece of plastic to the on/off button. For some reason the push button on the top does not reach the one on the circuit board.

SOURCE: How to Transfer Maps to GPSmap 60csx

Have you highlighted the section with the map select tool, then hit the Transfer to GPS button? If you do, what happens then? Does it freeze?

If you are able to send routes and waypoints to the unit, you should be able to send selected unlocked maps as well.

You have use the unlock wizard to install the key that is provided with the software. When I bought my Mapsource CitySelect, it came with two keys. The way Garmin does it is, you can install the software as many times as you want on as many machines as you want, but can transfer the maps, data, etc ONLY to unlocked devices. Last I checked Garmin wanted $75 for additional unlocks. Some data is not locked, like Topo maps and some tide points since this data is obtained (by Garmin) from the gov't, which is free for us (wel, minus taxes we pay). Contact Garmin support, they are very attentive.

The GPSmap 60CSx will not acquire a satellite signal even in open water with clear skies on Lake Michigan.

I suggest trying a external antenna. This will let you know if the internal antenna connector is broken. You can also do a system reset. Back up all user data first then;

Power the unit on while holding down the Page and Enter buttons. Hold them down until you get a prompt that asks you if you want to RESET. Select yes and lets hope that works. Also doing a update may fix the unit also. To update just use the free program WebUpdater found on Garmins website. For assistance please feel free to contact GPSCity the gps experts

My device has seemed to have lost its ability to acquire satellites. Any suggestions? It's Garmin GPSmap 60CSx. Thanks.

I would try a reset and firmware update first. To Reset the unit hold the Page and Enter keys down while you power up the unit. hold them down until you get a prompt asking you if you really want to reset.

Garmin has a free software called webupdater. this will put the latest software in your unit. If there is a GPS chipset software available please apply that also. It will be in the list when you run webupdater.

You may want to try an external antenna also to see if an internal connection came loose.

Try to power up my GPS 60csx and the screen stays on for several seconds then fades out.

I would suggest that you try the following master reset and software
update.
Please be aware that if you have not used your gps for a while it will
take time to download fresh information.
With the unit switched off please press and hold QUIT + MENU + ZOOM OUT
+ POWER
You will lose any data stored on the unit so back your unit up first. I
would also suggest running the latest software update from the following
link, if you have not already done so http://www.garmin.com/support/download.jsp

Once all this is done please leave your unit with a clear view of the
sky and allow it to acquire a satellite fix. This may take time so
please be patient. Once you have a fix leave the unit for a further 40
minute to achieve a good almanac update.

I have a Garmin 60csx that won't power up

On my GPSmap 60CSx the screen fades away after powering on - just like the battery is empty. Changed battery and used USB power. Always the same. When removing  the 2GB micro SD memory card then it comes up. Replaced the memory card and now it powers up fine. Seems that the memory card is damaged or causes a short circuit.
