Broiler will work, but oven wont

When I press the Bake button it defaults to 350 degrees. When I press Start, the oven comes on, but then a click is heard and the control panel reads "Low". The broil feature works fine and if I start the oven at broil and kick it back to 350, it will work.

Any suggestions.

Thanks. I wish I had found this site a couple weeks ago. I was playing around with it earlier, and I believe you are right. I took the bottom panel off and when I selected bake, the igniter did not glow. When I hit Broil, the igniter on the top would glow and eventually kick in. That must be the problem. I removed it and went to Home Depot and Lowes, but they do not sell them. I punched in the part number in google and came up with a bunch of online options. I wish I could find somewhere local to order it.

Glad I did not pay a repair man to come out.

Could be the bake igniter is bad and broil igniter is still good. may need to replace the bake igniter you will need a complete model number off range to determine the part number of the igniteryou may need.

Just had the same problem on another model. Was going to call out service company so thought I would clean the oven first. Put it on self clean and when it was done, I tried the bake feature and this time it worked.

My Maytag MER5755QAS oven won't heat up. My broiler will not work at all. I choose Bake, set to 350 degrees & it reverts back to 100 degrees and just stays there. My range top works perfectly.

A Maytag oven not heating at all may be due to a blown thermal oven fuse. Your oven's thermal fuse is a protective feature that trips when the oven overheats

When I press the Bake Button it only heats to 175 degrees instead of 350. Using the temp up Button the maximum heat is 260 degrees. How do I return to the proper settings?

Hello Jim;

My name is Peter. I am a retired Sears Home Services/A&E Factory Service field service appliance technician.

The information in regards to your model number does not match any known range. The model number is on a metal plate on the face of your oven when you open the door.

There are several components that effect the control of your oven temperature.

1.) Is your oven electric or gas?
2.) If electric do you see any sparking on the heating element?
3.) Does your broiler work?

I really do not know what you have. Give me the model number or call me @ 443-306-1362 and I will try to help you.

Bottom element is not heating to temp an shuts off during heat up - without error code showing in the display. IE. - Press Bake, 350 degrees defaults on screen; Press Start. YOu hear the Click as it...

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

This indicates an open/shorted oven temperature sensor and to solve this problem the sensor needs replacement. If you wan to be sure before replacing the sensor then you can test it with a voltmeter for around 1100ohms....if it reads more then this then it needs replacement however, if the reading is around or less then 1100ohms then it is the control board that needs replacement. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

Bake does not work but broiler does.

OK, it is likley that the oven ignitor isn't working and needs to be replaced. To verify if this is the problem, when you turn on the oven to BAKE and set the temp at say, 350. Watch through the window, (or you can have the door open). Look at the bottom, back, center and see if you see a bright orange glow appearing under the bottom panel.

If you don't, that is why the oven won't lit the gas. There is an ignitor for both the broiler burner at the top and for the bake burner in the oven compartment.

The reason that the temp display reverts to 100 degrees is because that is the lowest default temp setting for the display and until the oven temp actually starts to increase, it won't change. So the temp display is working correctly for the BAKE function.

Here's a line drawing showing the part you may need. Ignitor Part # WB13T10045. The good news is that your oven uses the same ignitor for both the broiler and bake burner tubes, so you could swap them if you wish to confirm that is the problem before you go and order/buy a new one. These aren't cheap at $91 bucks, but you can shop around the web for a better price if you determine you need one.

Sometimes the ignitor burns out half way through but because it still lits/glows, people think it's OK, but it won't get hot enough to signal the gas valve to open and allow gas to ignite and get the oven cooking.

Hope this helps you out and remember to disconnect the oven from the electric power before performing any repair work. Best regards!

Broiler element comes on when "bake" is pressed

does the bake element come on at all?
if so, try the oven out. do a bake @ 350 allow it to pre-heat, and see if once the pre-heat is comlete, id the broil shuts off.
on many ovens at the beginning of the cycle during pre-heat both bake and broil elements are powered.

other than that it may be a control board, or a burnt and crossed wire in the harness.

The 350 as you stated is a default set point that you see before you start the cycle. What you should see afterwards (start bake) is the current temperature - which would normally be lower than the set or desired temperature - it will eventually get there

Digital Control (for oven temp and clock adjustment) not working

Puzzeled, usually when there is a stuck or shorted keypad there will be an error code. First let's see if we can tell if we are in Centigrade or Ferenhiet. Press the bake and broil button together for 2 or 3 seconds. SF should appear in the display. Press the broil pad again and C or F will be displayed. Toggle to F and press start. See if that was the problem. If not try to increase the speed of the + and - keypads. Press bake and broil together for 2 seconds until SF displays. Press the + keypad increase the speed of the control. It should toggle from 1 to 5, 5 being the fastest. Press start and see if that works. If niether works..then have someone remove the keypad ribbon cable from the control board and clean the ends with an eraser. See if that solves the issue...Catriver..post back and let me know.
