Disable the turbo memroy driver and see if it will let you go onlin, if so download the driver or updated driver (if any), then unistall and reinstall it. If it won't allow you to do this, then try a system repair with your recovery or operating system disc.

The Vostro 1000 has a serious heat issue. Bad design of the heatsink/fan and CPU. I would bet that your onboard graphics card is also over heating. I would suggest you download speedfan program (its free) and see what temp your machine is running at. AMD's can take upwards of 145 degrees F Intel's depend on the CPU before issues happen.
I just had them send me a new motherboard, heatskink, fan, cpu, and ram for mine as it was heating up to 190 degrees and the monitor would go black and machine would either shut down or stall big time for a few mins. Especially if I was playing any sort of game or rip'n movies.
You can download speed fan here:

If you machine is still under warrantee, Dell knows about this issue and will repair your machine or send you the parts to repair it yourself. That is up to you!
Hope this helps you and others!

ok after you have booted in safe mode do a restore to a date just before the last day it worked properly and try that restore is found here
start/programs/accessories/system tools/system restore
hope this helps
SOURCE: Computer won't boot Windows Vista. Screen goes black with cursor arrow.
In this case you have to do the PC restore . you can do that in dell machines by shutting down the machine and when it is coming back on just HOLD DOWN THE CTRL ket and the START HITTING f11 key in this case you will lose the data which you have the on the c drive but this issue will get resolved .
Else you can try to restart in the safe mode with networking and then go to the system restore and then select the bold dates in which you have idea you system was working fine . selct the date and then do the system restore . In this case you will not lose the data but you will lose the updates which you have done after that date .
in both the cases system will work .
