It won't play for one of two reasons: 1. There is something inside the DVD player, which keeps it from playing. 2. The DVD player's battery has run out of juice and can no longer play, meaning the player needs to be replaced.
I cannot find out the supported DVD information of your player. So you may need to make sure what kind of DVD can be played on your DVD player, such as DVD-DL, DVD-RW, etc.
The only thing you can do is try a DVD cleaning kit and follow instructions, if that fails the laser pickup assembly will need to be replaced, but this would be to expensive and far cheaper to replace the player.
Go online to LG, seek customer and technical support to resolve the firmware issue, since they are the ones who provided the update. They must have a fix for this problem.
Easy to self instal with basic repair knowledge (+ philips screwdriver).
Remove top cover screws and cover,
Unclip front plastic front cover, roll out of way,
Remove 4 mount screws of DVD player/burner unit,
Unplug ribbon cable and DC power connection to DVD unit.
Install new unit by reverse of above procedure.
