Our LG was having intermitent problems and we thought that it was the HDMI on our DVD player that was playing up when in fact it was the TV this whole time. The TV was indicating to us that it was going to go. We are currently getting a repair man to come. Cost of AUD$198 to come out plus parts

  • Bond 911 Jun 05, 2008

Yeah mine aswell, some continous lines blurred on the screen then popping noises then 'shizaam' no picture. Just like everyone else i need my plasma and hopefully we can find a solution.

  • Anonymous Jun 08, 2008

Yes, I had the same problem, it happened after 14 months of
my purchase, or just 2 months after expiry date of warranty. But remember they
have 60,000 hours warranty on screen and this fault is part of screen (no
    picture J it
is screen problem), I called LG, first they did not accept the claim but soon
after I mentioned that I have done many research and this is very common
problem due to use of faulty part or unreliable design, and if they don't fix
it on their cost I will take legal action, one of the supervisor contacted me
and after saying LALALALALALALALALALA accepted to send someone to fix with no
cost. But I have found out they did to many others whom take this mater serious
so it was not just me alone J They are aware of
using faulty part is some ranges of their products and now this common problem
appears, LG don’t like it and wants to somehow get away. ((((((((((So don’t let
it happen))))))))) some of us paid around $5000 to $7000 when this TV came out,
recently price went down to around $2000. CALL THEM and ask FIX or COURT? For sure
they fix it for you free of charge J
Imagine how much would it cost them to
recall all TVs which they know is faulty?

    Enjoy

Was watching TV on a Saturday all working normal. Sunday afternoon went 2 switch TV on, unable to get a picture. Had sound, was able to change channels. Rebooted TV, checked all connection still no picture.

Called LG customer service. They referred me to a specialised LG repair place. I called them and made a appointment for a service tech to attend. I was quoted $148 just for a visit fee. Reading the posts on this site I may reconsider the tech visit.

    I have a LG 42 inch TV model no. 42PC1DV purchased 07/06/2008.

    HAVE SOUND BUT NO PICTURE

  • Anonymous Aug 11, 2008

Less than a month after buying my 42 inch LG plasma- screen black. sound works fine, can change channels, etc.

  • shortsm1 Aug 14, 2008

Our 42" LG plasma picture just went the other night after a popping sound. We were still able to change the channel and could hear sound. This happened 6 months out of warranty. After reading these posts, I realized we were not alone. I called LG and spoke to the "customer service" department, and after much deliberation, they offered a one-time warranty extension for parts only. I tried all that I could think of to get them to pay for labor as well, but all attempts were useless. It is frustrating that you pay thousands of dollars for a television that breaks so soon, and the company is not willing to stand behind their product. Our Sony tube TV is still running after 8+ years. After seeing all of these problems, I can say that I will never again purchase an LG product. By the way, someone posted that the screens are warranted for 60,000 hours of use. Does anyone know where this is in writing? What a pain this is.

I was playing the ps3 and there was a clicking noise and the tv went black and it still had sound.

  • slayer686 Aug 30, 2008

Damn TV was fine one day then the next day it was just blank. I took off te back panel and found 1 of the 5 fuses to be bad. It was a 240v 4A ceramic fuse. That is most likely the popping sound that everyone is saying they hear. I never heard a popping sound. So if you don't want to pay the price of having someone come charge you outrageous prices, check your fuses. First Unplug your TV then After you take out the 30 some odd screws, pull of the metal part of the back of the TV.... not the part with all the plug ins (Its not necessary). There should be 2 fuses on the left circuit board, which is where I found my blown fuse. The fuses are white with silver tips, their rating (size) is written really small on the fuse and on the circuit board right next to where the fuse is located. There is also 1 fuse on the center circuit board and 2 more on the circuit board to the right. Check the resistance on the fuse with a multimeter set at ohms. If its good it will dance around and go to 0, If its bad the meter won't do anything. If you don't have a meter just go down to radio shack and get your self some fuses there pretty cheap so just go spend $5 instead of $200. Good luck

I also have the same problem!! Was watching tv, it made a loud pop and went black but has sound. I bought it 2 years ago last month. What a piece of junk!!! I will be talking to LG reps tomorrow. I can't believe you pay that kind of money for a TV and it only last two years. to many people are having the same problems, should be a recall if you ask me! I will never buy another LG product again if I don't get some answers

  • uncut36 Sep 25, 2008

Hey y'all. I purchased our 50" Plasma in July 06. Five days after the warranty expired. We heard two loud "pops" and then picture was very diluted. We called LG and explained the situation. They agreed to fix it with a "One time" 90 day "free" warranty fix. These TV's should last for 60,000 hours of viewing, but who watches 15yrs of TV in two years. I had also purchased an Extended Warranty on my TV. Comes to find out it took $3000.00 to fix TV. Just like brand new now. If you have a problem, CALL LG or your warranty department, they'll fix it, there reputation is on the line. Took a whils for parts to get to us for technician, but was worth the wait. Thanks god for box TV's... Good luck..

My wife was watching Opra the other day, when POP screen went blank and stayed that way. So, When I got home to no TV... :`( I tried to call to have it looked after but it was after hours.
Next day after ~55 mins on hold I was able to get some resolution to my issue. I called the US executive number and told them that I was upset with getting the 'run around' and that I would really appreciate to assistance with me television. Long story shorter, they took down the model number, and serial number, and are going to fix it under and 'extension' to the warrenty.

So just call LG and expain that you heard a popping sound and they should help you out.

  • kwagner33 Jan 01, 2009

I have a 42" LG plasma tv that is 2yrs. 5months old. When watching it today there was a loud pop noise and then no picture, but have sound. A total black screen. I called the customer service dept. listed in my tv maual and they said "sorry, your warranty has run out." They gave me the number of a local repair and it's $100 just for service call. $2000 for a tv to last 29 months is just ridiculous! I really felt there was no need to buy an extended warranty. Afterall, who expects a tv for this cost to last for such a short period of time??? Shame on you LG!!

i have a 50in LG plasma that after a popping sound, the tv turned off. I couldn't turn it on with remote or by the tv itself. I was told to unplug the tv and try again...the tv turned on by itself in the middle of the day. But, once off again, I couldn't get it back on. The picture was great...but now, nothing. any help?

I have the same problem. 42" LG plasma and tv has no picture just sound. It is out of warranty a year and this happened. I tried calling the executive center number and they wont help any more, they say they cant as they changed the policy in last few months.
called the LG authorised service centers and its $150 for a service call. and another $500-$600 to fix it. they seem like rip offs to me, but what choice do I have?
does anybody know what causes this problem and what is the solution. help!

I have the LG 50PC1DR and it made a "pop" noise several days ago and we lost picture and sound. The set is 2 years and 9 months old and out of warranty. I don't know if it's because this set was a higher end model but the folks with the Executive team agreed to cover the parts for the repair. I appreciate them meeting me half way on this. That is the sign of a customer oriented business. Thanks for the phone number for this dept.

Same problem on a 42 Plasma LG. paid $120 for technician to diagnose!
I suggest to call the number and if they don't fix this, send a registered letter and sue the company.
It is not normal for a $1500 TV to last 2.5 years.

I have a LG 42PC3D-UD and it was manufactured on June 2006 as stated behind the plasma screen. Last week I turned my TV on and NO PICTURE but I have sound!!! It was perfectly working the night before before this happened! It was probably purchased in late 2006, so just about 27 months or so. This plasma was approx. $2500! What is going on with LG and their plasmas? I called them and all they want to know is when was the television purchased! Obviously, it has been 2 years already but I have other TV's in my house that are older and I've had no problems. There must be laws protecting consumers against such non sense!!!!

I purchasd a LG Plasma Model DU-42PX12 about 3 years ago. the Tv goes blank after on for about 2 minutes the sound remains. I thought it might be a cable problem but it was not. I will contact the LG service department tomorrow morning with the expectation of them repairing my tv at no cost to me. MY rational that I have other tvs almost 15 years old and no problem.

  • Anonymous Apr 30, 2009

Same problem here too - my 50" LG went pop and there goes the video. Unfortunately, mine was out of warranty by 1 1/2 years so LG says I'm out of luck. I tried everything from being nice to pleading with them, and having my wife call too. But they said no. I'm disappointed with LG by the fact that they knew this was a known problem but they didn't step up to fix it. I also filed complaint with BBB and seeing if anyone is doing class action lawsuit. Seems ridiculous that I spent close to $4,000 to buy this and only lasted 3 1/2 years. That's more than $1,000 for TV annually. Needless to say, I will NOT be buying an LG replacement, nor will I recommend their product.

I have a 50" LV Plasma that's only 2.5 years old. This morning I turned it on and heard a loud pop! and it turned off. I tried a couple more times with the same result. LG only offers a 1 year manufacturer warrenty. So I'm out of luck. We paid thousands for this tv and it didn't even last 3 years! Had it professionally installed and everything. Never again will I buy an LG product!!!

I have a 42" LG which I have had given up trying to repair.
I actually had a technician look at it and got charged 125.00.
Then I bought a replacement 42" Panasonic which has been wonderful.
Looking at these blogs, has made me think I still have a chance.
    Thank you everybody.

TV turns on and has sound and you can barely make out what is on the screen it is so dark. If you press the menu, it comes up but you can't make anything out of it as it is too dark. I've tried unplugging for 30 second etc. but it seems fried. Last couple of days, I could smell ward electronics. I suspect this was the TV now.

Plasma tv turns of 3 seconds after you turn it on has volume and picture is foggy and look like it still has the last foxtel screen that we were viewing

  • Paul Schuster Sep 03, 2014

It is either. 1. The y sustain board. 2. The zsustain board, 3. The memory boards or a combination of them that are bad. It is probably the y-sustain. Here is a link for partshttp://www.shopjimmy.com/lg/ru-42px10/, but they require electronic skills to replace. There is a chip behind a huge metal heat sync that goes out on these all of the time. You may also look for a board repair service on ebay. Remove the three sets of boards I mentioned and they can test and repair the defective one.

Our LG 50" plasma tv screen went black after a popping noise but still had sound, after great diliberations decided to take the back off and have a peek!
We unplugged the tv and tested the fuses (there were three we could see) one had blown, the one on the left as you look at the back of the tv it also has one above it. We wrote the code/seriel number down and took the fuse to the electrical wholesalers Maplin and bought a pack of 10 fuses for £1.29 replaced the fuse in the tv and everything now fine!!!!!!
Hope this might be of use to anyone whose lost the picture after a loud popping/snacking noise but still has sound.

I have a 42" plasma. Unlike the issues on the top of this page, I did not hear any pop but the picture went out and the sound is still OK. I did have a red line going from top to bottom on the right side of the screen. My sons-in-law came to take the TV off the wall for me and as they touched the wires the TV came back but then black again. It seems to go in and out. Could this be a wire. We cannot figure which wire it could be. CAN YOU HELP US??

Suggest bringing it into a reliableTV shop. Seems you have some solder joints that need to be re-soldered is my thoughts.

Call 877-543-8325 this is an LG Executive call center and they will fix this for free. I have a 50" plasma I bought january 2006 which is out of warranty by 5 months. They faxed me and the LG repair shop a 30 day warranty for my tv to cover the repair. Just tell them you heard a pop and in my case the picture is distorted. All they need is the model number and serial number and they should take care of it. No arguing needed.

  • Anonymous Nov 11, 2011

We had a similar thing happen. Now our picture is snowy and distorted like athttp://tinyurl.ms/f06. You thing that is warranted too?

Hear a pop, no picture and sound is OK => Y Sustainer problem. However, normally they have to change both Y Sus and Z Sus boards at the same time. If you lucky than it's just a fuse on the Y sustainer blown (the chance is very rare) otherwise the IPM (Intelligence Power Module) on the Y/X sustainer board is short. This is a common problem and costly repair for Plasma TV.

Lg Tv-Plasma from 42inch to 55,the poping sound and specially coming on then go off,or just sound and no image after turning on,the problem in very easy to Fix,some other people don`t want to let you know how is done couse all they want is money after we pay a fortune on it....solution?,is all in the main board,i don`t have a schematic but i`ll try to explain at my best,i had 2 of them, they were doing same thing, are 6 years old...solution: on the main board,(connects remote control to tv,gives the signal to turn on the tv),there is 1-2 capacitors that you will see they are black, but a little squeezed at the middle(if an electrician opens it is very obvious),when turned on,there capacitors makes a loud buzzing noise and get very HOT,that`s why the popping sound and black screen, comes on...and turn`s itself off, those 2 needs to be changed,to a higher Voltage, after this is done, you will see your tv back to Life again.

The capacitors can be of different types but the shape is the same, depends of Lg-Tv-Plasmas,42-55inch.
Good Luck!.

I called LG's # 877-543-8325 with the same problem. They were wonderful!!!! Fixed it right away. Very expensive if you fix it on your own, had to replace the whole board. Believe me!!!! call, they will help you.

I have an LG Plasma 42" from John Lewis they took me through many tasks to try to recover the picture the last suggestion was to pull out the mains lead while the set is on wait half an hour, put lead back in check Input is on Antenna Mode then retune, I did this and the picture is back !!!!!!! try it it might work for you. Good Luck.

I'd say: Never buy anything from LG. I've had very nice bluray players, ministereos etc. and they all break up after year or two. The final disappointment was the 42 plasma... worked fine 4 years. Then the power unit broke down and after that (1 month) there was no picture anymore... FCK the LG.

Sounds like that customer service number can be helpful, however they couldn't help me because the TV was purchased in the UK, and the unit is not sold in the USA, therefore the customer service couldn't fix it on the UK warranty.

I read some other blogs though and decided to be adventurous. According to all the blogs, you need to replace the YSUS (Y-sustainer, ZSUS (Z-sustainer), AND Control boards. These boards I needed for my TV were more accessible in the UK than in the US, but I was able to find them here http://www.electronica-usa.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=EU&Product_Code=6871VSNB03E&Category_Code=PLA

The boards cost $242 at that site, which was the cheapest I could find them anywhere in the US. The parts came and I swapped them into the TV in place of the old circuit boards. Voila! my tv works again! IT WORKS!

Specs about my TV:
Model PDP-42V7
6871VSNB03E

Part numbers
CTRL 6871QCH053G ZSUS 6871QZH041B YSUS 6871QYH036D
the last letter of the part number does not indicate a different part, only minor differences and upgrades, but the part will work in place of an older part with a different number on the end.

Lg sucks, same problem 6 months out of warranty and no help. I have an old tv that I had for 8 years and the picture is pefect and I paid thousands for this piece of **** to only last 2-3 years. WOW! for all of those who say that LG customer service was great, lucky you. As you see those were the ones who were successful with getting help, and still within warranty. I would like to see those same people two years from now when something else goes wrong with the piece of junk, and they are out of warranty and LG does them the same way that they have everyone else..kicked to the curb. Its obvious that there is a probelm with the TV that is a known issue, any other reptible company would have a recall or something to offer their customers because its a known issue.

Same problem but the two year warranty expired about 12 to 18 months ago. Will LG still issue a 30 day warranty to cover?

42 LG Plasma No Pic and No Sound Turn on the set and the green light blinks for a second then the tv clicks and is off. Disconnected the Z SUS BOARD and resulted in receiving sound and a faint picture, but only half screen at that. Tried leaving Z SUS connected and disconnected the Y SUS. No change. Anyone know solution?

I called the LG Customer service number and was hopeful after all of these positive comments. They were very rude and unhelpful and stated they could do nothing for me. Our warranty just ended 2 months ago and they could do nothing! Why is it that a TV only lasts 4 years these days???? That's very poor craftmanship on LG's part. We will NEVER be buying LG anything again!!!!!

Hi all.My mates LG 37LF66 37inch LCD TV recently lost the picture (black screen) but still has sound. It was bought from Richer Sounds nearly 2 years ago.Luckily he bought the 5 year insurance (tv cost £600 at the time and insurance was amazing at £60 for 5 years). The Tech guy came round 4 days after phoning Richer Sounds and identified the "Inverter" for the backlights as the problem and will come back after ordering the part (whole circuit board change needed as easier) and fix in the home.I googled LG37LF66 Inverter and they go for £30 on Ebay.Inverter part number was 6632L-0480A LC370WU3 and you can buy them new also for aprox £60 from other sites.
Hope you all find this information usefull especially those who have void warranty's.

I have the same 50" LG TV and the picture went out just under 2 years old. Contacted LG and they refused to participate at all. It does not appear they are as good or back up their products as they advertise. Even the repair man said ther were a lot of these tvs going out he had looked at three the day he came to check mine. I paid a lot of money for this TV and have learned a real lesson. I will never buy another LG product and highly suggest no one else does. Maybe then they will start be a reputable company that admits when they put out a bad product. Anyone know fo any class action suits pretaining to this TV?!?

My 42 inch plasma just went south with a loud popping noise too. The number to Assurance (covering the Circuit City extended warranty) is 800.268.0470.

The warranty is still valid and Assurance will handle the claim.

Same problem here. 50" LG out of warranty for 4 months. This is a major problem with these TVs, obviously. Customer service has been absolutely terrific. Once the repair company comes out I will post my final results for others. Thanks to the people who posted the executive customer service number. They were extremely nice and receptive. I'll repost final results.

I have the same issue on my LG 42" plasma, purchased 12/2006, produced 6/2006. I just called the cust. svc. # listed in the owner's manual and they readily agreed to cover parts. My warranty expired 6 months ago. Appreciate their willingness to cover the cost of parts, but it is still frustrating that it will cost us anything to continue to use our 2 1/2 year old TV. Anyway, calling cust. svc. is worth a try.

We have a 50" LG plasma and I had some vertical lines coming from the top of the screen down about 1/3 of the way. Apparently they don't have the parts to fix it anymore so LG is sending me a new TV! I have had this one for almost 2 years now. Their customer service department is great, very nice and easy to deal with.

I had this problem before on my LG TV. My solution is to put a 12V fan on the tuner board processor. The problem is caused by the TV overheating and the tuner CPU cuts out because it is hot and instructs the power board to shut the tuner board off (although the rest of the TV stays on). You cannot likely get a TV repair man to fix this because the LG TV's do not have adequate heat control other than vent holes on the bottom and top. This is a design flaw that started a class-action lawsuit against LG.

I had the same problem. Called the number the poster above listed (877-543-8325). I was nice, and just explained that I was frustrated with the fact that it broke just after the warranty expired (4 months). They had me fax the receipt in and said they would extend the warranty for both parts and labor.

Thanks so much for posting this information!

Most likely what happened is one of the capacitors went bad. When a capacitors goes bad it produces a popping sound. This could be an easy and cheap fix if you find the bad capacitor or capacitors. The bad capacitor will have a bulging top most likely on the power board but could be anywhere.

This is almost certainly the device that sends electricity to the the plasma in the panel after failing. Bring to your local repair shop and expect to pay 300-400 parts and 100-200 labour.

Check high voltage circuit. This is near where the 120 volt cord is plugged in and a high voltage transformer, where there should be capacitor (or two). Check the voltage - should be 390 to 400 volts. If not less than 390, near to replace the capacitor.

42 inch LG Plasma TV Lost Picture

Hi it sounds like it has had an elctric fault like a resistor failing.
The click you heard would be a internal switch that cuts off the elctric supply to the screen to stop furthe damage hapening.
It could even be something simple like a bad solder and in that case will need locating and resoldering.
How old is the telly and how often is it used.
When you switch it off leave it off for about an hour then try again if you have allready done this then it probably is a blown resistor are you sure nothing has been pressed on controll have you tried seeing if you can acess the menu screen via the remote and see if that comes up on the screen let me know ok

Check the power board for any domed capacitors. Replace them. If this does not fix Replace the power board. You can check the voltages from the power board. they are labeled. VS and VA voltages are the panel voltages.

Sounds like a capacitor blew on one of the boards. Can you detect any burnt electronic smell? If the Cap blew on the Power Supply, you can either replace the Capacitor or replace the power supply board. The boards are between $79 and $149 depending where you get it. Some of the other boards, Y or Z Sus, are between $179 and $300. If you can't do it yourself, and with many 42" models selling for $649 to $899, it might be too expensive to fix.

You can find the boards on ebay or shopjimmy, youtube has videos showing how to replace them. Hope that helps.

42 inch LG Plasma TV - Lost picture

Hi , I recently had the same problem which I was determined to fix . So I did a few weeks of research to find that it was the Y SUS board which burns out. I'm sure you realized that the TV gets hot. Personally I think this is why. circuit boards don't like heat and I've learned that the cooling fans are a joke. I replaced the board and got my picture back. I proved the fan theory because after the screen started to act up. I placed a cooling fan near the vent holes on top and the problem cleared right up,It also helps if you lower the brightness which helps out on the heat situation.I will soon be adding a fan with a temp. sensor. This shoud help if your screen has lines when you initially turn the cool TV on.then I have Some other costless solutions. Hope this helped these are great TV's and like our cars we maintain them not throw them away..................................Mr Wiseman
