I have an '04 Outlander and the manual slap stick stopped working. I also noticed the Drive light was not on when in auto drive. This is a common problem with this model and a relatively easy fix. Tools you will need are a small flat head and medium cross head scredriver, solder gun and electronic grade solder, small heat shrink tubing. Remove the entire center console - start at the rear by removing the 4 philips screws in the center arm rest compartment, remove the cover plate underneath the hand brake and the 2 side panels on either side at the front. Remove the shift knob (2 screws behind the small cover plate on the front of the knob - remove with small flat head screwdriver). Remove all remaining screws and the rear section, then slide the center section over the handbrake followed by the front section.

You will see a small switch on the shift lever with 3 wires (Black, Blue and Red). Most likely one or more have become detached, at this point it is best to unsolder any that are still attached because they will likely break in the near future! Remove any old solder and wire from the 3 contacts with the solder gun on the switch and tin each with fresh solder. Strip about 1/8" on each of the 3 wires and tin each with solder. Slide about 1/2-3/4" of the heat shrink tubing onto each wire. Solder the wires back to the swtich in this order:

Black - top
Blue - center
Red - bottom

Start at the top and work down, and after soldering each slide the heat shrink tubing over the solder joint and shrink by applying the solder gun - this will provide better mechanical support and help prevent future breakage.

Reassemble the center console in the reverse order of removal - make sure you have no screws left over!!

Good luck - hope this helps.

I have a 1996 Buick century oil light came on. It was a quart low. It wasnt over heating no smoke I get it off the tow truck to put it in a space it starts ran for 5 second it was makin slapping sound

? it only took a quart of oil to read to the full line, or it only showed a quart low on stick ? the difference is , the stick only shows 1 quart low , no matter how low it really is , im of the suspicion that engine was much lower than 1 quart , and running engine low on oil will damage it 4 sure , slapping noise will need to be determine by qualified tech

2005 vue 2.2 stick makes a slap or clunk sound when fast acceleration or quick stop,

because of the torque on manual transmissions, especially when driving hard, they can wear out the motor mounts. The rubber is only meant for everyday driving. If you are trying to race it, I suggest upgrading your motor mounts to a urethane motor mount for more engine stability. Now because they are stronger and stiffer, you will get more engine vibration in the cabin. Excessive engine movement can cause damage to parts over time. Now if you don't have a cherry picker to stablize your engine while replacing the mounts, a jack w/ a block of wood under the oil pan will relive pressure so you can change out one mount at a time.

A loud knocking noise and than the oil light comes on but just had a oil change than suv cuts off.

For some reason the engine is loosing oil pressure, the engine will shut off when the oil pressure sensor reads no pressure. The knocking noise could be the timing chain slapping against the sides of the covers as the tensioner is operated by oil pressure or a bearing problem. First check to see if there is the proper amount of oil in the engine, if so, I would recomend you have it towed to a Qualified Repair Shop that can determine the problem [ they can also document the problem in case you have cause to go back on the place the did the oil change ].

1992 cadillac deville - hvac blower motor does not shut off.

replace the relay , when a relay sticks like that , a good test is to slap it with something like the handle of a screw driver , see if it un-sticks , its not a fix , just a test . cheers'
