Not broadcasting My wireless network had been working well for months; however, starting last night my router appears to no longer be broadcasting. My laptop cannot find the network although I can connect via LAN to the modem

  • Anonymous Feb 15, 2009

Worked great for 2 months then the wireless broadcast stopped. The wired computer continued to work for a while and then it stopped also. Reinstalled the router and this got the wired computer back on line. The wireless feature still does not work. Downloaded the latest version, but still no wireless. Called Tech support and they had me verify and change various things, but still nothing. They said to call again to get another tech operator! This thing is a piece of fertilizer.

I have the same problem. I bought my router at the end of September and it has worked without issue until about 5 days ago. Then one night my computers couldn't connect or see the network anymore. I reboot the router and the wireless router works fine for a few minutes before it disappears again. I can connect with ethernet fine. That seems to be okay. I will try to create a new wireless network as joker2198200 suggests and see if that works.
I have emailed dlink twice but haven't received a response. I tried calling in but couldn't reach anyone.

My router is password enable before but no its not,how can i make it passsword enable again?i know my password

Here are some basic steps in setting up your Linksys router

Hope it helps!

Please follow the below instructions to protect your device:

  1. Connect your computer to the router using a network cable, or you can connect to the router through a wireless connection. Note that your wireless card in your computer must be enabled.
  2. Open your Web browser. Enter: http://192.168.1.1 in the address field. This is an internal IP address to access your router. Press the Enter Key.
  3. When the password request appears leave the user name field blank. By default, the password is admin.
  4. After logging in, you are not required to change the default administrative password. However, it's fully recommended that you change the default password by clicking on the Administration tab and Management. Enter a new password in the Password field and again in the Re-enter field to confirm.
  5. I recommend setting the Remote Management item as Disable. It will be another layer of security for your router. With this configuration you can only access your router for programming using a standard Ethernet network cabling.
  6. To save the new password, click Save Settings at the bottom of the page.
  7. To avoid intruders accessing your wireless connection we'll start to work with the Wireless tab.
  8. In the Basic Wireless Settings enter a name for your wireless network connection in the Wireless Network Name (SSID). Set the Wireless Broadcast to Disable.

When wireless clients survey the local area for wireless networks to associate with, they will detect the SSID broadcast by the Router if the Broadcast is enabled. Do not broadcast the Router SSID. It must be Disabled.

Note that your SSID should be set following similar rules for setting a password, e.g. at least 8 characters, a combination of letters, numbers and non consecutive characters.

Disabling the SSID broadcast is not a strong security setting, but it can help prevent intruders from sharing your WLAN. Remember to save your settings.

All wired ports are sending and recieving data but, my wi fi won't appear.

This can be caused by basic wireless settings of the router or the old firmware of the device especially if you have wrt54g version 5/6 router. To check these settings, follow these steps:

  1. Using a computer that is plugged into the router directly with a network cable, open a web browser.
  2. In the "Address Bar" type http://192.168.1.1 and press Enter.
  3. A box should appear asking for a "User Name" and a "Password". Leave the "User Name" field empty, and type your WRT54G router password into the "Password" field (the default "Password" is admin) and click the OK button or press [Enter].
  4. The WRT54G "Setup" page should now appear. Click onto the Wireless page.
  5. When the "Wireless" page loads, you should be on the Basic Wireless Settings sub-section.

Please check the following:

  1. "Wireless Network Mode": should be Mixed.
  2. "Wireless Network Name": should not be linksys (if it is 'linksys", try a different SSID name like linksys123, or your last name).
  3. "Wireless Channel": if the channel is set to "6 - 2.437GHz", change it to either "1 - 2.412GHz", or "11 - 2.462GHz".
  4. "Wireless SSID Broadcast": should be Enable.
  5. Click on the Save Settings button toward the bottom of the page to save changes. Click Continue when rompted to reload the page.
  6. Next, click onto the Wireless Security page(under Wireless tab). Click the WPA sub-section (depending on your router firmware version, this sub-section might also be labeled "Wireless").
  7. The WRT54G settings have been changed. You can now configure your wireless adapters and software with the same settings as your router, and restart the computers to check the connections.

Note : Make sure as well the wireless switch of your laptop is on.

I want to hook up a wireless router to my sprint sierra wireless aircard 595U. How do I do it?

Actually you hook your aircard to the router...
When you turn on your device, it will detect the network being broadcast by your router. The router broadcasts it's SSID (network name) and this will appear on your screen as one of the networks available in your area. Select your own networks and click connect. You will need your WEP (network key) to logon on though so make sure you have this ten letter code before you start.

How do you get an gateway that appers offline to apper online?x

sounds like you are referring to the SSID broadcast. look for a setting in your router that mentions turning on or off the SSID broadcast. While off, that prevents your wireless network from appearing in the "wireless networks detected" window of users nearby.

Most home router has an IP address of 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1. If you dad's laptop can connect to the router just fine, then it's a problem with your linux laptop. Can you see other wireless networks on your laptop?

Router

check you cable connections, try to check if you can go online wired to the router if you are connecting wirelessly. You can also bypass the router and connect directly to the modem to make sure its working.
