When i rewind the tape, it locks up when i press play.then i cant eject the cassette. i hear clicking like it was to start playing. i power off the cassette unit, once sometimes twice and it free's up the cassette so i can now eject the tape. what could be wrong?????????????
There is a mechanical problem in your tape deck. probably a losen rubber band. it clicks because the rubber is too lose to move the mechinal parts. so when you power off, it losen the whole machanical parts..it is very easy to replace..opend the deck and check it out..good luck

Dual cassette deck are often poorly built and full of problem with age. They are typically not worth repair. Get a good deck like the Tascam 122 Mk II as these can be repairs.
I have consulted with clients that have dual decks and the cost to repair will get you a Tascam 122 Mk II in restored condition and it works much much better. I should know as I have been repairing decks for 40 years so far.
It is likely that either the drive belt has broken or is slipping. Because the unit is still in "play" mode, the mechanism won't let the door open up. If you have not opened up these units before, do not attempt it now. This unit should be taken to an experienced tech for repair. Where are you located?
unplug then remove the top cover press down on the cassette release and remove the tape then rewind the part of the tape still sticking out by hand push in the button on the side of the cassette to open the cassette cover
