For the adapter, you can use a 12V DC adapter who as the negative at the center of the plug, I have try it for mine and it is working perfectly. The current of my adapter is 1A and it doesn't overheat. I use a Toshiba AT7020A I hope this could help you. Note: This is for the NON MKII model, just Portastudio 424.

My mistake this is a 424 mkIII not a mkII. Sorry for the typo. Great news is I opened the power supply case and un-soldered the fuse. cleaned it off with tarn-x and behold 3 amps 250 volts. Definatly worth the $1.00 im gonna have to pay for that. As for the **** that was gonna charge me a $100 bucks. There is a reason you are doing that to people. And one day your services will be obsolete.
I just bought a 2488mkll .I have a keyboard. On my old portastudio I had to us the headphone output of the keyboard to plug into the portastudio for a signal can I do this with 2488mkll. Also the keyboard has a midi output I'm not familiar with midi cables it's a 5 pin midi can I just plug the midi output of the keyboard into the 2488mkll input or do I need something more?
Okay I have found two solutions here. They may both be the same but the information here is kind of vague so I will post them both.
I have found a PS-PS5 power supply as the title suggests. It can be found here: http://www.supermediastore.com/tascam-ps-ps5-power-supply-for-trainer-series.html
I have also found a power supply for the Tascam 424 mkii which can be found here: http://cgi.ebay.com/Tascam-PSP424-Replacement-Power-Supply_W0QQitemZ7405614833QQcmdZViewItem
Hope this helps!
