I bought a used H20 unit and called Directv last night. They activated the card and told me to leave it on for 24 hrs. to load all sattelite info. It was working then. This morning it was off and won't power up. Can you help me?
I tried unplugging and resetting and every other thing they recommend, but no luck. The power light will not even come on. I presume the box is dead. Is there any fuse or reset inside the box that I can check?I tried unplugging and resetting and every other thing they recommend, but no luck. The power light will not even come on. Did you every find a solution? I am having the same problem. I came home and a picture was frozen on the screen. Once I unplugged the receiver to try and reset it the power would no longer come on. No lights at all along the front. Is the remote the only way to turn on the power?Did you every find a solution? I am having the same problem. I came home and a picture was frozen on the screen. Mine was a bad power supply - I was getting the AC voltage but on the power supply they have a circuit called bridge rectifier where it converts over to dc after secondary side of the transformer. Thats where I found out the DC side was dead on the power supply. If you rget your power supply board replace more likely you'll be all set.Mine was a bad power supply - I was getting the AC voltage but on the power supply they have a circuit called bridge rectifier where it converts over to dc after secondary side of the transformer. Mine was the power supply board was bad. The AC voltage was OK I read AC on meter but there was no DC Voltage coming out out of the secondary of the tranformer. There's also power transistors and a bridge rectifier circuitry which might also caused the DC voltage to die out - but it would be best to have your power supply board replaced. Check your cables. Be sure that you are not using a splitter on your SAT IN and that they are in the correct places. Check your cables. Be sure that you are not using a splitter on your SAT IN and that they are in the correct places.
Get a volt meter and check cable it should be either 13 volts or 18 volts depending on station. Get a volt meter and check cable it should be either 13 volts or 18 volts depending on station.
Someone takes their time to attempt to help you and you give them a TWO rating?
It would be better to not rate them at all!

Your DirecTV receiver, DirecTV access card, and your DirecTV satellite dish.
Step 1: You need to write down the serial number that is on your DirecTV access card onto a piece of paper that you will need for future reference. You'll need the number to activate your service with the DirecTV company. Now take your access card and insert it into your box, there is a slot either on the back or front side in which the card with enter.
Step 2: Plug the cable line that is coming from your satellite dish into the "Satellite In" plug on the back of your receiver box. Step 3: Look for the "Out to TV" port on the back of your receiver, and use the proper cable, which should come with it, to plug it from the receiver into the proper port in the back of your TV. Step 4: Power up the receiver and your TV (after plugging in the power cable and all) and tune into either channel 3 or 4, depending on where you live. Step 4.5: You may be prompted to plug in a phone line, in which case you would need to plug in a phone cable into the back of the receiver, but this is only required as a one time thing, you may unplug it after activating your account.
Step 5: Once everything is set up (which it should be at this step), call DirecTV at 1-800-531-5000 to activate your access card, and you will need to use the serial code you copied down from it. Step 6: After your access card is activated, enjoy watching on DirecTV!
I'm guessing you have the H20-600. They got recalled. More than likely, your receiver is bad.
If your installation was in the last 3 months, do your technician a favor and call him if he left his number or office number. Even though you have a faulty unit, a 'repeat service call' still counts against him and it could effect his work flow. Call them and they will do what they can to help you get a new unit without harming the technician's stats.
If your installation was not in the last 3 months, call DirecTV. This is pretty much a receiver issue (an issue like a bad connection or switch wouldn't cause this problem). You can probably try to get them to directly mail you a new box (you'll be able to ship your old one back for free) instead of forcing you to wait for a service call. If you have the H20-600, you can probably get the box for free but you'd definitely end up paying for the service call.
those units are known to go out after not long at all try doing a front panel reset by pushing the red button where the access card is you may have to do it several times to see if it will finally come up if not your looking at buying a new receiver
unplug the power from the reciever for a few moments. plug it back in and let it load. once its finished turn to channel 201. Usually it the reciever is on an unavailable channel (channel with no programming) when it restarted it will go back to that unavailable channel hince the black screen and no sound.
If you swapped directv receivers and the problem followed to a different tv then there is something wrong with the directv receiver. Need to run satellite setup again on this receiver to fix. repeat satellite setup is accessible through the setup submenu by pressing menu from the directv remote. look under satellite submenu once in setup
I do not have an schematic for this receiver. This receiver might not use LM317 or TIP42C but a different voltage regulator, try to locate where the 20 volts line from the power supply and follow it to anywhere near the LNB tuner circuitry. This type of IC is normally mounted on a heatsink.
Lastly if you are a subscriber, give you satellite service porvider a call to get a replacement.
Your hard drive may have crashed. Can you hear any disk activity when you plug in the unit? The hard drive can be replaced, but probably better to either just get a replacement unit (you can get them on eBay for $40 or less) or upgrade to a newer receiver.
same problem on two different h20 receivers - called directv and explained the situation each time. since these are leased receivers, new ones on the way.
