For months my 6310 was working fine with this vista home premium software. After a update and/or virus problem I had to reset my laptop and when I went to reload the printer drivers after the printer quit working I have never been able to get the drivers reload properly - even after many uninstall efforts. I am usning the Vista CD provided by HP. Windows can not find the driver siftware from the web. Each time after the install instructions command to connect the serial cable, the drivers start to load but only get to 7/8 complete and then freezes. It can stay for hours and never do more. IF I unplug the serial cable at that time and then reconnect it APPEARS to complete the install, but in the end it sends a "cannot print due to problem with the current printer setup'. As an fyi, the printer stills works fine with the other laptop that runs XP

Yes, if you use a Virtual Machine, you can install the version of windows you wish to work with, install the software, and it should work just fine.
You will however need a genuine copy of windows to install in the virtual machine.
You may be able to find an image of the OS you need, or a snapshot of an OS, to load into the VM, it all depends on the type of VM you are going to use
I work with Hp It is not that you cant fax from the solution centre but the fact that windows vista has an updated version of the registry which will not allow faxing from the pc unless you have windows Vista ultimate. Im not trying to blame Microsoft instead of Hp but I have taken calls where customers cannot fax using hp solution centre in vista and I started checking the registry and there is one component in Windows Vista Ultimate that is present which willl allow you to fax but This same registry entry is not there in other Windows Vista's. That is why I prefer using windows Xp rather to Darn Vista
it's possible that windows defender is interfering with the functions of you software. turn windows defender off and see if you still have the problem.
go to control panel and open windows defender and turn off real-time protection
if this helps please leave a vote in fixya..thanks
