2001 chevy s10 automatic 150,000 miles suddenly lost 3rd and 4th gears

Suddenly without warning my automatic transmission 3rd and 4th gears are like neutral. When starting out it goes through 1st and 2nd with no problem then seems to be in neutral and revving high. Fluid level is fine. Any suggestions?

I dropped the trans pan and quite clean inside, no debris. Fluid is quite dark though. Replaced filter, added fresh fluid and stil no 3rd or 4th.

No 3rd or 4th on 2003 chevy tohoe 5.3 ?

The 4L60E transmission usually has a life of 150,000 miles. The "newer" transmissions are made a lot lighter and therefore weaker than the old workhorse TH350 and TH400 transmissions of the 70's and 80's. They had to make the transmissions with less metal to attain the ridiculous MPG requirements. I had to have mine rebuilt in my 04 Silverado at 165,000 and couldn't believe that they told me the average life was 150,000!

Why won't my 1999 sentra move when I put it in reverse or when upshifting into 3rd or 4th gear?

Time to have the computer scanned for trouble codes but it sounds like there is a problem in the transmission. Google is your friend also........

My 2001 GMC Jimmy 4x4 Automatic with 84K miles. It winds when I put it in reverse and I think I only have 1st and 2nd gear. Additionally it revs high, like over 3000 rpm, delays and then eventually...

It winds up in 1st and then shifts right from 1st into 3rd. Then never shifts into 4th. Plus rev is gone. You broke the sun shell. The transmission will need to rebuilt or replaced.

92 chevy s10 4x4 4.3L manual transmission no 3rd gear

Hi:

Your transmission has 3 shift rails...
1st - 2nd
3rd -4th
5th- Reverse

If your 3rd gear doesn't work , you have an internal transmission problem, such as a syncronizer, or similar fail... There is not much you can fix, without removeing the transmission.
