There some thing that you had done to get black and white on your tv with the dvd ,check your connections.if the connections are properly connected then the tv could be having a problem in the video input, have a tech look at it.

* If your player and TV set was working prior to this then it's probably playing a black and white movie or the TV color setting is off and needs to be reset.
* For TV go to menu, Picture, Color set up. (Best to restore to factory settings as a starting point.)
* For DVD try a known "color' movie (at least something later than 1965) if it plays in color then the older disk is B&W.
* If someone pulled out the cable (Yellow, Red, and White) this is the Video (Yellow) and Audio Left-White, Audio Right-Red.
* Check this cord for damage and reconnect into corisponding color coded jacks. Note; this cord will not affect the "color of the set other than not show up at all - Blank screen if wrong plug inserted.
* Call TV support line (or DVD support) for advice.

Onkyo dvd player plays black white Questions & Answer
It sounds like you have a standard problem. Is the TV you are using, that gives the black and white picture, the same as the other ie, both NTSC or PAL and both on RGB or Y-C or S-Video? Check to see what is required and set the DVD player accordingly. Hope that helps.
if you have the dvd's s-video plugged in and also something plugged into the yellow video input this will happen , does the piture on the tv show black and white?
otherwise the vcr head is dirty and needs to be cleaned
please rate a fixya and I'll be happy to even assist you further
Since you're using a composite cable (yellow RCA) that carries both luma (brightness) and chroma (color) information, it's not the cable that is the problem.
That means it's either the DVD player itself, or the TV. If you have another video device (VCR, etc) that you can connect to the TV, try that. If the other device also goes from color to black and white, then it's your TV. Otherwise the problem is your DVD player.
Since your TV only has mono audio (white RCA, but no red) I would recommend getting a new TV if the TV is to blame.
Hey, I had this problem on Thanksgiving Day, trying to watch a dvd on my mother's HDTV. You should be able to hook up most standard dvd players to hdtvs. First you have 3 cords, mine were red, yellow, and white. The connections go as follows:
HDTV: Audio| Component. The white cord should be in a white audio slot. The yellow cord should be in a yellow component slot (video) and the red cord should be in a red video component slot labeled Pr/Cr. Make sure you match the component numbers. For instance, if you want to use component one, then hook all of the cords into the slots for component one. Most hdtvs have multiple component hookups ( think multiple "channels" for your game system, dvd player, etc) so it's important that the corresponding cords go to the correct component slots.
DVD: Match the yellow and white cords to the appropriately colored slots. The red cord should go into the slot labeled component video out Cr/Pr. Not the red audio out. This worked for me. Hope this helps.
Depending what cables you have, try plugging only the yellow cable into "video out", I previously had red, white, and yellow cables plugged into "comopents out" and only got black and white. Doing only the yellow into video out gave me color.
How can we get the color to come on.
Brand new tv can't get the color to work only B&W
