My TV flashes sound and picture with DVD and some channels from DirecTV. Both DVD player and DirecTV are ok with other monitors. Only the 500+ channels are involved? What may be wrong?

  • Anonymous Aug 05, 2012

Turns out that the 500 channels are premium channels. The DVD Blue, has the same copy protection schema which goes through HDMI cables to the TV. The HDMI board decides if you have permission to view the channels and a bad HDMI board flashes on and off because it has lost the ability to get this message. It is the main board, but component RYB and audio cables works fine. Cheaper than ordering the new board

Look for any loose contacts in RC jacks/sockets/Cable. Even if one strand of wire is loose and touching the earth connection of the jack, you might get these sort of problems. Check whether the service provider has any problems beyond 500+ channels. Depending on the frequency, some channels are generally weak.

I have picture but no sound LG flatron TV and Pioneer DVD player.

connect audio output (RCA Jack white n red color) from the video, to the audio input of your TV. Make sure you use same AV channel for the video and audio.
i.e AV1 or AV2 or AV3

I cannot get my directv box to work on channel two and three. I can get the game input to work for dvds and games. I also have switched boxes and the they both work, just not on the emerson tv.

It sounds like the tv tuner on the emerson has gone bad if the directv box is not working on channel 3. Try channel 4 on the emerson tv and see if it works. If not you may consider using the game input for directv and disconnecting the dvd player or game console and then reconnecting them only when you use them. You would need to disconnect directv from the game input each time to use the dvd player or game console. Oterwise for simplicity buy another tv. not worth repairing these days

I just had directv hooked up, I have a dvr receiver, I was told I did not have enough hook ups on the back of my tv, so therefore, I went and bought a switch or combiner. Now, how do I need to run the...

Newer directv hd receivers must connect to the av input (yellow, red, white) connections on the back/front/side of your tv. If your tv only has one of these av inputs then you will need an RF modulator for your dvd player. You will connect the (yellow, red, white) connections from the dvd player to the rf modulator and then connect the tv out on the rf modulator to the tv rf jack ( the silver threaded barrel on the back of the tv) Tune your tv to channel 3 to watch a dvd and then back to the av input channel for the directv receiver.

The DVD player is plugged into one of the television's input channels, and the satellite is plugged into a different channel. You will have to take either your television's remote (not the staellite remote) or find a button on your television itself, and press a button that says "input," "source," "video," or "TV/VCR" and find the correct channel on your television that corresponds to the DVD player. If you give me the model # and manufacturer of your television, I can tell you exactly which button to press.

No sound when recording

I had the same problem yesterday. We tried checking all the cable connections etc but all seemed ok. We tried going through all the settings and those also seemed ok. I'd just about given up when I happened to spot a couple of buttons on the remote that I hadn't pressed. I clicked on 'monitor' and on the 'tv/dvd' button and lo and behold, the picture had sound!! We double checked that it wasn't just the 'ext 1' channel and then tried recording again. It worked.. WITH sound. Hope that helps and it wasn't just a fluke. :-)

No sound from built-in DVD player on TV?

It sounds like the audio cable from the DVD drive may be loose or damaged. Did you wall mount the TV and this is when the problem started or has it always been like this? If its under warranty, contact the helpline on 0871 2000 463, be warned, if its becuase the cable is damaged by a wall mounting screw, its clearly evident and they will charge for repair.
