Oh no it is less expensive to repair the printed circuit boards. You should buy only the IC,s that sony recomends you to buy. They will cost you more then a replacement IC will but they are not all alike even if they have the same numbers on them. Go to http://www.partstore.com and enter your model number and look for the STK IC. Don't forget to get some heatsink compound to install on the back of the new IC's before you reinstall them.. Remember to always double or triple check your work and make sure you have no solder bridges or shorts on the board. If you need a copy of the service manual, post your e-mail addy and I will send you one thru Pando. Pando is available online at www.pando.com for a free download. Pando lets you send large files via e-mail and the Sony manual is large. Good Luck

I have a Sony KP57WV700. The problem I have just started. On the left hand side there is a blue shadow. I try the Auto Convergence but this did not help. I also try the manual Convergence but it does not let me move the blue cross far enough to merge with the white Cross. I?m thinking it?s the Convergence amp IC. Have you ever seen this problem and know how to fix? I have the service manual. I just need to know what to do.I can solder pretty good. I'm just concern about the high voltage.

On my Sony KP-65WS510 The colors are misaligned in the picture and the picture is bowed. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi,
This problem appears due to convergence output ICs failure located on D board in tv. There are two big black ICs that need to be replaced, soldering work is required.
Let me know are you handy with electronics stuff repair and can replace parts in circuit board to provide you more technical info OR local tv repairman will do this job for you.
Thanks.

Sony KP-46WT500 Convergence

try this mate: download the manual from here: http://manualshark.org/p/sony-4/sony-kp-46wt500-5918/ you need to get 2 Sanyo STK-392-560 IC', Also do not forget to install a new coating of heat sink compound on the back of the NEW IC's before you install them onto the printed circuit board. You also may find out that after you replace these two IC's, the set has no big difference from what it looked like before. DO NOT DISPAIR! There are probably open feedback or return resistors or Circuit Protectors around the convergence ICs. Take a multimeter and measure the plus and the minus 22volts DC on both IC's. The manual will show you where these points are. You need a low wattage soldering iron, and you can go to mcmelectronics.com and find one for less the 20 bucks. Then you will need some rosin core solder, some solder wick, and a few good hand tools. It is very easy to unstrap the wires going to the chassis and simply turn over the chassis and unsolder the connections., BUT I highly recommend, if you have had no or very little experience unfaltering or soldering on a printed circuit board, this is NOT the place to be experimenting with this. Please call someone who has the experience. Good Luck.

Hi,
This is symptom of convergence output chips failure in rear projection tv, replace convergence ouput ICs in tv to get it fixed.
If you are handy with electronics stuff repair and can solder parts in circuit board then check 2 big black ICs mounted with aluminum heat sink on D board of tv, replace them with same numbers and if you feel uncomfortable working with tv circuit boards, local tech will help you.
Thanks.

I have a 48" sony projection with a rainbow comming down from the top

You have convergence circuit failure. Convergence IC's have to be replaced and probably some PICO fuses that soldered on the same board. This repair require good soldering skills.

Hi,
It would be great to assist you in Sony convergence issue.
As you said, for some time TV shows bad convergence in picture that shows its matter of lose/ dry solder joints in D board, specially on convergence out ICs pins that need to be re-solder.
There are 2 big black ICs mounted on aluminum heat sink on D Board of TV, below image shows D Board location in TV.
Resolder pins of these 2 ICs and also check any other dry/ cold solder joints in circuit board. I do not think of IC replacement as problem occurs some time.
Let me know if you have additional question.
Thanks.

Sony faded colours and double lines

You probably need to replace the convergence IC's and do a good cleaning of the internal mirror and lens. This repair will involve soldering and un-soldering on the printed circuit board. If you have no printed circuit board repair experience, play it safe, and have a pro do this repair for you as that price sounds reasonable for this type of repair. Good luck!
