Those blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices. http://homenol.blogspot.com/ http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ If blinks continue without any pause, the main board is faulty. Your model is a three CRT projection which doesnt have a thermal fuse. What are the symptoms of the set? Does the power indicator blink? If so how many times is it blinking?

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both. Repair kits with instructions are also avail from www.TvRepairKits.com

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Hi,
+/-22V come from G board by CN5004 pin4 and pin6 then enters in D board by CN8013 pin4 and pin6 and supplied to IC8001 and IC8002 (convergence output chips)
Reason of missing -20 volts could be D5002, L5008 and PS5001 on G board and above said connectors on G and D boards. Unplug connectors and replug back in to refresh connections.
Did you replaced convergence output chips in tv?
Let me know your findings to find out any further reason/ solution.
Thanks.

That's usually caused by the convergence ICs and associated pico fuses. You can get to repair kit called the Sony type I convergence repair kit from www.tvrepairworld.com the kit contains the parts and instructions on CD.

This problem appears due to convergence output ICs failure located on D board in tv. There are two big black ICs that need to be replaced, soldering work is required.
Let me know are you handy with electronics stuff repair and can replace parts in circuit board to provide you more technical info OR local tv repairman will do this job for you.
