THe touchpad start button on my counter top sharp carousel microwave/convection oven is failing; since the "one minute" button continues to do its job I am inclined to rule out the door latches as the source of the problem. I can sometimes (but not always) get the start button to work by unplugging and then replugging the powercord. When using the convection oven function I must use the start button twice once to begin the process and then again after the "preheat oven ready message"to continue it. Only once has the "second start" failed. I hope someone out there can help me solve this problem. Thanks
May have to get a membrane switch........could be starting to fail, become intermittent...i've had to replace these on occasion.

The keypad on my Sharp Carousel 1200Watt 510HK no longer works The problem...
The main think you'll want to do is clean a contact strip that sits between the control panel and the control board. You'll also want to clean the contacts on the panel and board themselves.
Start by removing the control panel assembly, and unscrew the control board from the control panel.
Here's a picture of the back of the control panel.
When you re-insert the contact strip, I recommend turning it so the unused side is making contact.
Here's the area of the control board that also needs cleaned:

Mine has done the same thing. I find that if I pull the control panel completely apart, clean the little rubber contact strip then put it back together it works for about a year before I have to do the same thing all over again. I don't know how it can get dirty. Maybe the contact strip just comes loose after so much use. Who knows. But ever since I've been doing the above I've been able to keep using the microwave indefinitely.

The
first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a
minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.
If that doesn't work, leave it unplugged for maybe an hour.
Then let us know if the hard reset does not fix it.
You may have a bad keypad.

The keypad is available separately (you have to peel off the old one and stick the new one on) for about $36 plus shiping. It is also available preassembled with a new control panel frame and display for about $78 plus shipping. They are available from Tritronics at http:www.wehaveparts.com BUT - I would first suspect and check for a failing door switch. Opening the door while cooking (without first hitting the STOP pad) is the primary cause of door switch failure. I have a text file called "doorsw.txt" which helps in diagnosing and repairing door switch problems, and a file called "safety.txt" which is of vital importance. You can find these files via a Google search. In some cases, the problem is a bad connection or a bad relay on the control board. That's something we see from time to time, and we repair those nationwide, but it's usually a door switch. If you still have a problem, please write back with more detail. Be safe!

SOURCE: Re: Sharp carousel microwave oven minute display light out
Hello there
To replace the light you will first have to remove the outer shell.
To do this
(1). Remove all of the screws on the back of the microwave that hold on the shell
(2) Remove the screws that are on the bottom.
(3) now the shell should slide off towards the back of the microvave.
Note : this may take a little bit of pressure to get it off ok?
(4) Once the cover is off look towards the fromt of the microwave and
you will see the bulb. now just replace the bulb and reinsert the cover and the screws and you are all done ok? pretty easy ha/

Hello :
This happens because of a bad door switch . The plastic mounts inside
the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door
latches lock when you close the door .
Check also the turntable .
It could be out of it's right place .
WARNING :
1:Don't
slam your microwave door because this may cause the fuse to blow and
this is the reason of bad door switch problem .
2: A microwave is
capable of giving you a serious electrical shock even when it's
unplugged , so I recommend you to call a repair technician for help .
please
don't forget to rate .
good luck .
