No only the bottom the bake supposed to come on, the top one is for broiling when you set the knob or push for broiling.it will burn the top of everything you put in there.

SOURCE: Oven will not heat to requested temperature

Shaffy, When baking only the bake element should heat. When broiling only the broil element (upper) should heat. Your oven is a Kitchenaid, you have a 5 year warranty on any electronic element or control board. You may have a temperature sensor that is not working right. The oven just might need to be calibrated, the instructions would be in your owners manual. Your bake element might be failing, it would have to be ohmed out. You also need to verify that the bake element is getting 240V. when turned on. Catriver...post back

What should the voltages across the elements in an oven be when using the different settings?

The heating element is either off or on and it should be 220. The issue you are having is the thermostat.

Electric range drawing too much current

Are the top and bottom elements not supposed to come on when in bake mode? Check your instruction manual. The circuit breaker will not affect how your oven works. If the CB is tripping then maybe the circuit is not of a high enough rating to cope. Again check on the load that the oven takes in the instruction manual.

Top oven bottom coil doesn't come on. Is it

Yes the lower element of a electric oven is the bake element, the upper on is broil element,
The most usual thing why it doesnt heat is a broken element. Does a part of it look smooth and a part real rough and ragged looking
If a part of it looks ragged and rough the element is bad,it should not be bulged out anywhere of it.
it should look smooth and uniform
If it does seem to be not uniform anywhere on it,replace bake element

What could be the problem when i put the oven on broil every thing is ok the top element come on ,but when i put it on bake only the bottom comes on

Hello, W/D here.
That's the way it is supposed to work. The top element comes on only for broil, but not for bake, and the bottom element comes on for bake, but not for broil.
Best regards, --W/D--

Bottom element doesnt work in oven, but top does.

NOPE!
  1. Broil element does not have welded-on legs and will touch the bottom of oven, overheating itself and will end up the same way your bake element did; besides, the bottom of the oven will corrode pretty quick
  2. Many ovens use both elements during bake cycle
  3. self clean cycle uses broil element
  4. The bake and broil elements typically have different mounting brackets and screw holes ate in different places
  5. you'd have to cover the hole, left after removing the broil element, and insulate the wires, which went to broil element
  6. the ends, protruding behind the mounting bracket may have different length and different connectors. you may end up shorting the wiring to the casing, which may in turn destroy the control board if there is one
  7. Bake elements usually cost only $40-$60. No jury rigging required.
Hope this helps ;)
Good luck!

The oven, which is mounted on the wall next the the stove, doesn't get hot. I had an elecrician in and he said it wasn't the heating element. In fact he said the heating element for the broiler is working...

1. There are 2 elements, bottom one is the bake-element, top is the broil. Does the bake element glow when it cycles on?

2. The temperature sensor could be faulty.

3. The control board may have failed. We see this symptom frequently due to a control board problem. We repair these at www.fixyourboard.com

Frigidaire range model #FEFLFSA, is the top element

When you say Top Element, I assume you mean the TOP OVEN ELEMENT, correct? You have bake, and broil? Bake is usually on the bottom, and broil is the top. In order to have the oven operate correctly, the top and bottom elements may come on at start, in order to do as you just said, "Preheat the oven". This will insure an even distribution of the heat in the oven box and result in better cooking expierences. I would not be alarmed or concerned if the top element came on for a short period to pre-heat in preparation for cooking. This is normal. If the top element stayed on, and did not shut off on bake after the pre-heat period, then I would say you have a control board problem. However, if it comes on and then goes out, except when you are broiling, then I would say that this is normal for your stove, and the pre-heat mode of operations. Your owners manual should advise you of this very process in the guide section to how to use the oven. I hope this helps and that all your cakes, pies, souffle's and the like are......delicious. I'm sure they are. I hope this helps and eases your concerns. Kindest regards, Slats.
