Have a "cyclone ca-594" amplifier, connected Power, Remote, and Ground to unit, the protect light is illuminating but not the power light. The unit is not connected to a head unit yet, am trying to figure out if the amp is functional before removing the head unit to connect the rca's. Does this "protect" light illumination without the "power" light illuminating signal trouble with the amplifier?

The Idle bias or channel offset circuit is not functioning and the longer you wait before you have it repaired by a pro, the more its gonna end up costing you. At this point its probably just a small bias diode or even an channel bias alighnment .Good Luck

The power amp does need an imput signal ie. tuner, cd , and such to play. You can use the power amp with the other equipment.
Good Luck

Solution if all fuses checked out OK and +/-40V are present on main PCB DC connector from power supply:
Check for +37V and -37V on small sub-power supply PCB - mounted vertically on the main power supply PCB. (next to ribbon cable connector is a layout with voltages.) If the +/-37V are missing check (replace) C501 (0.1uF) on the small power supply PCB for leakage, but also check (replace) R401 (2R2) and R402 (2R2) on the main power supply PCB. Both resistors are fuse-resistors and will have gone open circuit when C501 has gone leaky.

Protection means that the output stage of the amp has detected a problem. Usually this is because there is DC present on the speaker line indicating blown outputs. Figure on $25-$45 for parts plus the local labor rate for the repair.
