Broken Monitor I would appreciate an explanation for what might have happened to this monitor. The user reported a fizzing, cracking sound, the image on the screen became very distorted, and a crack was visible on the screen. Then, the monitor quick working altogether. What might have happened to this monitor, and is this an unusual occurance? Is it repairable, or would we need to send it in to be replaced under our warranty agreement? I would appreciate any information you can provide! Thanks!

    Hey Roeder,

I have this same issue. Do you still have your broken monitor? If so, I may want to take it off your hands.

Guru's tip is very good. Only 1 small issue left out, is the monitor standing free and not near any heating devices or heat generating devices or in a very moisty area? these are things to bear in mind when placing sensitive electronics or better, all electronics as such devices or areas can cause the crack or the described failure of a component.

Hi Roeder, I have never heard of an LCD screen cracking from anything other than physical force, this is a first for me. It is possible since there is high voltage power in there for the backlight. In light of the sound I suspect a component failed, generated lots of heat real quick and caused the crack/failure. This is really unusual and you might try calling Gateway to see if they will replace it, especially if it is one year or less old. I would resist all temptation to open the LCD till you call Gateway. If they will replace it they won?t be happy to find you opened the case. Let us know how it works out and please don?t forget to rate this post.

I tested in my PC with the cables of my own monitor (Benq FP92Wa) and the image pop-up just fine, but after 5 seconds the monitor goes black. I tried to reboot in safe mode but the same thing happens

If the monitor has the same problem on two different computers, it is most likely the monitor has a problem. This monitor is probably about 9 years old, and it would probably cost more to fix it than to buy a new one.

I opened my laptop and it looks cracked but to feel the screen it is fine. Is something underneath the plastic broken? How could this happen, it wasn't dropped. Can it be fixed??

No the Lcd is broken. The material is such that it will not shatter therefore would not cause any harm to you the end user.If you wipe your finger over the area you will see it change from light to dark.

Lcd monitor

Is the LCD monitor broken with a cracked screen or is it just not displaying an image?
If the screen is cracked then it needs to be replaced.
If there is no image on the screen and it is not physically broken then the fault could be an inverter problem or a faulty CCFL lamp.

LG Monitor L196WTQ-BF ..weird image stuck on desktop??

The "image" you are talking about: Is it there when the monitor is off? If so, you are correct--it's broken and must be replaced.
Is it on the desktop when you start the computer and does it stay there no matter what program you are running. If the answer is "yes" then I'm afraid the answer is the same.

There are 3-4 patches of colours on the sides of screen what is the problem in the monitor ?????

Sounds like a magnetism prob on your monitor. It happens occasionally and/or if a magnetic force has gotten close to the screen on CRT monitors. Speakers have magnets inside and many people place their speakers right next to their monitors. For your LG Studioworks 700S. I located a manual here:

http://safemanuals.com/user-guide-instructions-owner-manual/LG/700S-_E

Inside, on page A7 it indicates that the monitor has a "Degauss" feature. Activate it and your screen will jump around a bit before straightening out. This helps to restore the image.

No picture on monitor when hooking up for the first time

There are control buttons on the side of the monitor. Are you sure you have pushed the button to power the monitor on?
If so, this is the troubleshooting step for No Image on that monitor:
No Screen Image
• Make sure monitor is turned on.
• Make sure the video cable is securely connected to both the monitor and PC or
Audio/Video apparatus.
• Make sure you have selected the correct video input source
• Adjust the brightness and contrast levels.

You can view an online copy of the user's guide here: http://www.westinghousedigital.com/pdf/60_User_Manual.pdf

Pavilion MX75 monitor clicking.

What has happened is the automatic screen size & resolution detection circuitry is going/gone faulty. You usually hear this sound ONLY when ya change screen resolutions, ie: when say ya change from 800x600 to 1024x768 or the like. With 2nd monitors so inexpensive these days repair is often NOT warranted.. so perhaps it is time to upgrade to another. However if ya choose to have it repaired obtain a "Quote" and an explanation B4 ya proceed.
