The monitor, L196WTQ, will not turn on and I have
The DC filter caps in the 5vdc and 16~18vdc have completely FLAT TOPS?
Please note that bad cap can look normal but can have high ESR.
If you are going to DIY and already try the monitor with another PC, and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed LG monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

My LG L196WTQ monitor sometimes
windows 7 has most drivers for basic functions built in ...and it will assign a driver at the installation ..but it is not necessary to be the best one ..or the one that it needs to be installed and errors can occur due to this cause..
My advice is to reinstall the monitor driver ..and the video driver ..if you have the disk ...If you do not have the disk ..look on the manufacturer's site and see if they have downloads for your model
Another way that you may do ..is to get into the device manager and one by one ....right click on the monitor driver and video driver and properties..and choose update driver ..cause for windows seven the driver update should be possible automatically in this way ..
Monitor will not power on and led light is off.
It is possible that the fuse has failed and has cut off the power. If so there sould be a failure in the smps- switch mode power supply- which has to power the low tension DC voltages. If you are confidentt open the rear sie and use a multimeter to check for fuse failure , if so check for short in the smps. replace the driver or capacitor or the rectifier. check for any short also on the surge protector. If the DC comes out then we have a serious issue and could be failure of the mother board. you will need to check for microprocessor failure, LCD driver/processor faulty. You will need to be proceeding in this flow chart. Helpful? Good day

Hi
Thanks for using FixYa. To start with if you have warranty then use it and get it repaired to avoid future issues. However, if you dont have warranty then you can open the monitor and start checking the power board which is the board where power cord/plugs goes in. I am saying this as I assume you have already tried everything else out. Please do accept the solution if the issue is
resolved or post a comment for further assistance.
Thanks

hello,
This is an indication that your power supply is about to die. Go to our web site at:
www.ccl-la.com We have pictures of parts called capacitors and what they look like when they go bad. Open the case on your monitor and look at your power board for any that look like the pictures, and replace any that do. You will need to use high temp replacements that will be marked 105c. The values you will need are going to be marked on the sides of the bad ones you take out. After you replace the bad capacitors you should be back running again. If you don't want to do the repair yourself we do offer a repair service for $35 + return shipping. If you have any questions just let us know.
I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

LG Monitor L196WTQ-BF ..weird image stuck on desktop??
The "image" you are talking about: Is it there when the monitor is off? If so, you are correct--it's broken and must be replaced.
Is it on the desktop when you start the computer and does it stay there no matter what program you are running. If the answer is "yes" then I'm afraid the answer is the same.
I have a LG L196WTQ-BF flatron screen. Computer
Hello,
It sounds like you have a monitor with a common problem. After a few years some LCD monitors will blow a power supply. The problem is caused by parts called capacitors overheating in the confined space of the monitor. If you are good at electronics repair/soldering you can usually fix the problem. Check out a few pictures on my web site
www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm You can take the back cover off your monitor and look for the bad parts, replace any that look like the
pictures and your monitor should
work fine. The capacitors do need to be installed with the correct + and - connections, note the stripe on the old one and insert the new one the same way. If you don't want to try the repair yourself we offer a repair service for $35 plus shipping.
I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.
