do you know what areas to look for this on the board for this tv?? and also what percent chance do you think it is a bad capcitor or diode i mean is this a common problem?

and what is a diode and what does it look like i know what a capacitor looks like

this is a toshiba made in 2000 32 inch

if it is a capacitor is it an inexpensive reapir for me to do i can solder......

Sounds like a bad capacitor in the deflection circuit or a leaky diode which is causing the problem. Adjusting wont help.

the most easiest would be simply look fr capacitors that lok swelled and or leaking. Without a ESR meter theres no way to test them, but often they swell especially on the top when they are defective

The capacitor should be near the HV generator ( Flyback) Diodes are blck with a silver band on one end looki like a resistor. Diodes and capacitors are very inexspensive if you can find which one is defective.Be careful around the HV section cause even after a set has been unplugged for a while the capacitors can still shock you if youre not careful around them

CZ32T31 toshiba bowed picture

It must be due to a failure in the pin-cushion circuit, or the setup in pin cushion adjustments.

Picture is distorted......bowes inward. Colour is

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Toshiba CZ32T31, Vertical Deflection?

Usually the solder joints on the vertical output IC crack and the little pico-fuse opens. Resoldering the IC and replacing the pico fuse should bring the picture back. If you have never heard of these parts before and have no idea how to find them, then allow a qualified tech to handle it for you.
