Display panel reads "RESET" and keypad doesn't work

My GE Spacemaker JVM240 was in storage for over a year. I plugged it in and turned it on to try it and it seemed to work. I unplugged it, moved it and replugged it and now it doesn't work. The light comes on when the door is open. The display panel lights up when it's first plugged in, but the keypad doesn't work. After about 10 seconds, the display panel says "RESET". And that's it. The keypad does nothing. Any thoughts?

I believe I answered this, so pardon me if this is a dupe. It sounds like a problem on the control board. If it was stored in an unheated garage, shed, or other building, it could have some condensation deposits which could cuase corrosion on the circuit board. We repair these control panel assemblies nationwide for $32.50 and you can find out more through my listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk If you have not tested and cleaned the keypad strip where it goes into the board, post back or e-mail me and I can give you instructions on that.

Have a GE Hood micro model # JVM1540DN1WW. Control panel doesn't work. Did hard reset buy cutting power. Probably bad smart board. Problem is this is the 2nd one I have had . These last only 2...

You have a failed membrane keypad.

On this model, the membrane keypad is not available as a separate part, so you would have to order the control panel frame assembly which comes with a new keypad.

In this case, you simply move your circuit board into the new frame. That is a simple do-it-yourself job.

It is part number WB56X10824 and you can order it here for $124.12.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

At our Web site ,we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Then you unplug the keypad (as per the photo below) and move the circuit board into your frame. Be careful - the display is made of glass.

Some connectors on the relays may have a lock:

GE Spacemaker Microwave, Model #JVM1540SN1SS, buttons don't work

The membrane keypad has failed.

The keypad itself is not available as a separate part, so the control panel frame with keypad would have to be replaced.

This is actually a pretty simple DIY job.

You can part number WB56X10826 from the Pros here for $114.62 plus shipping (that compares to $166.50 from GE!).

You can also find helpful exploded view diagrams at that link.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Then disconnect your keypad strip as shown in the photo below, then remove the screws that hold your circuit board in the old frame.

Then carefully (since the display is made of glass) move your circuit board to the new frame, and reassembly is the reverse of disassembly.

GE Microwave Spacemaker oven, Model JVM240

That would almost certainly be a problem on the control circuit board. If the bulbs happen to short / blow out or if they are removed or installed while the microwave is still plugged in, there is often an arc which causes damage to the board. We repair regularly these boards for such problems for $32.50 nationwide.
