Hi,

Offhand two (2) options to address your concern:

  • use a small external USB or PS/2 keyboard;
  • order a replacement keyboard. Pls reference 1, 2 or 3.

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

Some of my keys on my laptop are not working.

Replace the keyboard with a new one. Laptop keyboards are not that expensive.

Make sure that the replacement is compatible with your computer. To know more about it, please visit the website of your computer's manufacturer.

You can also try a USB keyboard to check if the non-working keys work with the other keyboard.

I hope this helps!

X1000 power button

The power button on these laptops is easily depressed underneath the power button strip especially when the switch becomes dirty, the screen doesn't light up, and the user gets frustrated. When I find a depressed button, I take the keyboard off by removing the 2 13mm screws with the keyboard emblem from the bottom and moving the 4 tiny plates between the esc-F1, F4-F5, F8-F9, & F12-delete keys. The power strip is then removed by gently prying up near the CPU and pulling it up and toward the front of the laptop. You can then either repair or replace the button or strip. I small drop of contact cleaner down into the switch will help it function reliably. Even a small drop of rubbing alcohol will sometimes work but contact cleaner is the best.

I cannot use my g and h or backspace button's

The 1st reason may be:
-You may need to update the driver software of the keyboard. Try entering the following URL:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/prodTopCategory?product=96120&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us

Then select your product, then look for a keyboard driver. Download it and install it.

And the 2nd one reason, may be:
-The keyboard keys may be broken, and doesn't work.

If the first step doesn't work, try buying an external mini keyboard, that can be found in any PC Service shop, and it also have a low-cost.

GOOD LUCK :)

Broken keyboard keys on Compaq Presario C500 laptop

yes, all laptop keyboards can be replaced. do you have the manual for the laptop? it shows you have to remove it and take it apart. or you can download the manual from their website. you can buy a used keyboard from ebay. I don't think they are thay expensive.

Good luck

My keyboard proablem

You need to replace the keyboard. Here is a source:
http://www.machinaelectronics.com/store/buypart.cfm?id=5628&model=1958

The screws holding the keyboard are under a plastic trim strip that needs to be removed.
