It sounds as though you have one of the following problems:

  1. Dirty contacts that can be cleaned with CRC electronic component cleaner;
  2. A faulty drive that may have been dropped at some point in time. Your drive may have a three-year warranty and Seagate will replace it. Just go online and provide the serial number; and.
  3. You may have to reinstall the drivers. The Seagate website can provide this if needed.

SOURCE: Beyond micro mobile disk BMMDU2 is not recognized

The drive USB interface may be damaged; an external case is available form various vendors for about $20. The drive should pop out and into the new case. If still not recognized, then the ID track on the drive may be compromized - that can happen if the USB is unplugged while it is still writing to the drive. There is drive recovery software out there, like EASEUS that works quite well (they have a demo that you can try free) to see if that would work.

SOURCE: External 500gb hard drive not readable

Check the partition size in Disk Management (if running Win7 - download a free Partition Manager if not) and see if the system is seeing the partition correctly. Seagate has recovery software available on their website but you may just have to repartition and reformat.

Power to Seagate FreeAgent Drive is Unstable

You might be able to swap the drive to the other portable drive. Or, if you have a slot in your PC, put it in there. If it runs normally, the PS is shot (wouldn't be the first). Either get a new case with PS, or keep it in the PC. You can power it down when you're not using it.

It's also possible the drive is bad. Find the HDD diagnostic tool in your OS and check it out.

My Seagate portable 320gb external hard drive fell on the floor now my computer and laptop don't see it( won't let me get in to the hard drive) , how do I fix this , Important files on it Help please

Since this external hard drive is USB powered and felt on the floor, you could have a broken USB connector or interface card, both located inside hard disk case, you should contact Seagate technical support or repair service, or if you have electronics skills, you could open and check hardware by yourself.

Seagate external hard drive problem

Hello, Did you try to use this drive on another computer? Did you have the same problem? Did you try using a different cable? I would try these things first in order to determine if the problem is with the drive or with the computer. Good Luck! Dr. Know
