Take a look at the sawtooth waveform produced by the vertical oscillator. There's probably an IC that's producing it. I'd suspect there is a capacitor that is out of tolerance in this circuit on it's way to the vertical deflection yoke. Hope this helps.

How do I fix the screen of my TV that only shows 1/2 or the lower portion of the picture?

find the vertical sweep section on the circuit board, find the bad solder, bad voltage supply, or bad capacitors. Replace the vertical sweep IC as a preventive measure. A service manual or schematic for your model of tv, as well as skill and test equipment is necessary to pull off this repair.

Or take it to a tv shop for an estimate. they should be able to repair the set quickly.

H LINE

Hello
Your TVs vertical sweep, otherwise wertical scan, output section has got some trouble with it. there are horizontal and vertical sweep sections there for every picture tube based TVs. If horizontal sweep section fails, you will see a vertical line at the center of the screen, and if vertical sweep fails you will see a horizontal bright line across the middle of the screen.

To locate the faulty section and to get it repaired, you have to open your Tv. Open it, after detaching it from wall power socket. Locate the vertical section. It is easy to locate. There will be four wires going to the main board from the deflection yoke, fitted on the neck of the picture tube. Amoung them, two will be thick, usually colured as red and blue, and the other two will be thin. Follow the two thin wires, and you can see it to be plughed into a socket on the main board. Just put the board upside down, and follow the track of that two thin wires through the printed circuit boar. You will reach to the vertical outpuut section. Usually these sections are provided to work with an Integrated Circuit [IC]. screwed onto a metal heatsink.
Before doing any thing, just look onto the solderings of legs of that Ic for any loose contact. As it is very difficult to locate the loosec contacts, just resolder all the pin soldering at that IC by applying a little more solder. and check if the problem is rectified. As these ICs will heat up while working, it is natural to get its leg solderting loose after some time.
If it doesn't help. check the voltage input to the vertical IC said above. If there is voltage, and still it doest help, desolder it out from the board and go for a same type and number. Replacing the Ic will solve your problem.

Problem

Hello.
This indicates that your vertical sweep has failed and the auto protection circuit is shutting down the video so you do not permanently burn that line you see into the phosphor coating of the CRT.
At any rate, the vertical sweep circuits need repair before the unit will work again.
Good luck.

Duraband 19'' TV shows one horizontal bright line ONLY

Yes there is, a solution. There is a vertical sweep issue with your TV set. It could be a vertical output IC and or the sweep power supply feeding the IC. This repair will involve trouble shooting the vertical circuit, and replacing parts. If you have no solid state repair experience, my best advice would be to take the set into a repair shop and get an estimate on this TV. The repair, in most cases, should not exceed 125 bucks, and thats a high end cost. Good Luck

No picture

You have an intermittant vertical sweep circuit! It could be the vertical out put IC solder connections on the printed circuit board, or maybe the IC itself has poor connections between the IC and the contact legs that mount the IC, or another componet in the vertical sweep circuit. If you know how to solder and unsolder, work on printed circuit boards, then you shoul have no problem replacing the vertical sweep circuit. Good Luck

No vertical sweep

You might be able to take care of it yourself, you are corret when you said no vertical sweep,if you can identify the vertical IC it will be easy, you are looking for loose conections but by now it might have a bad vertical Ic and it needs to be replaced along with the safety resistor that power the IC,the ic should be mounted on a heat sink and the resistor should have low resistance, very straight forward repair and while you are there make sure and check for overheated areas and loose conections specially in the power supply , horizontal drive circuit and convergence IC's.Be careful you still have high voltage witch can be dangerous.

Panasonic TX-29AD2DPM Serial no LE-7511621

No Colin, Its not the Tube. The problem is a vertical sweep falure. it could be just a driver/output IC or could also have a problem In the sweep power supply where The voltage that supplys the B+ going to the vertical IC could also be defective. Its not a repair a user should attempt to do as it's soldered into place and you can get hurt if not experienced with these types of TV repairs. As to the cost It depense on how much you like the set and if you can find an honest repair person to do an honest job? Good Luck
