Remote stops working

We have a Sylvania 2940LV video cassette recorder. The remote randomly stops working. It will not turn the unit on or off. After fiddling with it, we might be able to get it to work again. We have no idea why it stop or starts again. Anyone with any idea what is going on? (We can use the units keys but not the remote.) Thanks!

Trade positions of batteries - even then may not work so try rebooting position on tv by using code in instr bk.

Your remote is going bad and the only solution is to buy another one or buy a universal but it will only let you use the basic functions like play, rew,ff , stop and on time recording, I don think it will let you program for recording it or use the menu,a new remote will cost almost as much as a new VCR.The universal is a very inexpensive option.

Have you tried changing the batteries? If you are a careful worker, you can try repairing the remote yourself. Open the remote carefully, clean the PCB and the Contact Pad well and re-assemble the remote. Try with new batteries.

Need the manuel original lost or misplaced and can not find. want to record cassettes to cd's

Insert a blank CD-R or CD-RW into the unit. Press the Function button on the remote (key above Vol+ on the bottom right of the remote) or the turntable itself (top left of the control panel) until the unit is in Phono mode. Then insert the pre-recorded cassette and press Play to advance the tape to where you wish to start recording. With the cassette playing, press the CD Record button (recording will flash on the display). The CD Record button is to the left of the fast reverse button on the unit; it is labeled Record on the remote and is below the Stop button. When one side of the cassette finishes playing, press Stop. Wait for the display to return to Phono. Then eject and turn over the cassette to play side 2 (if you want to record both sides of the tape). Press Play again to advance the tape and then press Record. When this side finishes, press Stop and then Finalize. Finalize is at the bottom left of the remote buttons and to the left of the stand by indicator on the turntable.

The manual is available at Crosley: http://www.crosleyradio.com/Product.aspx?pid=1790 . The direct link to the manual is http://www.crosleyradio.com/Manuals/CR248_Manual.pdf . Recording a cassette to CD is on page 11 (page 12 of the pdf).

I hope this helps.

Can I obtain a new Remote Control for my Sylvania Video Cassette Recorder/DVD Player Model SRD3900? The original one is broken beyond repair. I was told at Sears that a universal control can only be used...

You can try a number of possibilities. Search for the model and name on the internet. It will turn up lots of info and possible used parts. Ebay is very good. And you will likely turn up the manufactures site with a possible replacement part. Expect it to be very expensive compared to a used part. You can try the universal controlers but get one that learns new commands. There is a modest chance you can find an identical unit and program it from the that. Ask sears to let you use the floor model. If the unit is still working but not reliably, you program each key and keep trying till each key works on the universal.

I would like to make a copy from my video tape to a DVD How do I do it?

Turn on the TV and set it to the video source to be able to easily see the menus as you set up the dubbing process. Put the source tape you want to record in the VCR. (Copy protected tapes will not be dubbed.) If you want to avoid dubbing from the DVD to the VHS tape, remove the erase protection tab from the cassette. Put a compatible recordable disc (non-finalized disc, unprotected disc) in the recorder and make sure there is sufficient available capacity on the disc.

Press Rec Mode/Speed to set the speed (SP, LP, SLP, or XP). Press DVD/VCR and set the unit to VCR mode. Confirm the mode with the indicator light on the unit. Press Dubbing and the mode should switch to DVD automatically. Select Yes (with the left/right arrows) and press Enter to start the duplication. The unit should indicate the VCR playback, dub and DVD recording are in progress. Press Stop to halt the dubbing process or it will stop when the unit reached the end of the tape or the disc is full.

The dubbing button is only on the remote control; if your original remote isn't working make sure that your replacement remote has the feature. Remotes.com often has exact or substitute remotes with the matching features. Search just by the model number not the brand.

BTW: the manual is available here: http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/owner_manuals/26967/SANSUI-DVD-VCR-Combo-L0311311?brand_name_search=sansui+VRDVD4005 .

I hope this helps.
